Could these be costing me spl?
Yesterday I was trying to eliminate some rattles from my trunk when I heard a strange noise that sounded like a flapping. I traced it to these vents. They aren't too loud and wouldn't make enough noise for me to bother with them except that I am thinking they might be costing me considerable sound output, since a fair amount of air was moving out of them when the bass hit.
What do you guys think. Would removing these and covering the holes with a metal plate make a considerable difference in the sound level? I don't see that they are that imporant, just to help keep the trunk temps down.

Those vents also allow air to escape when you shut the doors......by closing them off you risk window damage when you shut the doors. You will also affect the flow through ventilation to some extent....

Turn your sub around and buile a frame around the enclosure so that the ALL of the woofer's energy is forced through the rear center pass-through. Either remove the pass-through's cover or modify if by turning it into a grill. That way, you don't have to seal the vents and your ears won't pop when you slam the doors. Plus...no energy is wasted in the trunk and you won't have any exterior rattle.
