laser detector is only good for letting you know that you've been screwed. there's no good cheap radar detector, but maybe you can find a deal on an escort 8500 or an escort solo s2.

escort passport 7500s can be had for pretty cheap and is similar to solo s2, which i use.

"The cordless Solo S2 offers radar detection range similar to the Passport 7500S."

here's one ebay auction

problem is, the laser detect doesn't give you much. laser is very fast, so unless you're really lucky and catch reflections off other cars, the laser detection gives you no time to respond. most radar detectors come with laser detection, but i would concentrate on good radar detection range (at least as good as 7500s/solo s2) and not laser detection capability.

the only good measure against laser is to have a laser shifter, such as blinder or zr-3. but that's another $200+ (without install)

try ebay from home, but here's a 7500s in a store: http://store.yahoo.com/nextpowerusa/es75de.html $230. Really do go with eBay: the top-of-the-line Escort 8500 X50 red can be had for $250 shipped. I will be switching to 8500 X50 from my Solo S2 soon.

One for laser detection is a moot point...you are hit with laser and you are screwed without a laser jammer

as for detectors you can find cheaper detectors that are good performers...and this is coming from an Escort 8500 owner...you will just find less features, shorter detection distance and lack of filtering in cheaper units

currently I have a Blinder Xtreme M-40, Escort 8500 and I'll be putting a nice coat of Laser Veil coating over the emblems/foglights/and other majorly reflective pieces

I suggest you get a mid range detector like the Whistler 73:
http://radarbusters.com/products/whistler/pro-73.asp

or if you really want budget the Whister pro 58: http://www.radarbusters.com/products...ler/pro-58.asp

Then get yourself a Laser Jammer, Blinder M-20 is the only way to go, to bad a group buy ended on this through www.mazdaparts.com 's vendor section on the forum...but it'll start up again if there is enough interest.

Then you are good to go, btw I created a Blinder M-20 install DIY on the forum the link is in my signature I believe.
