changing stereo and speakers (newbie q.'s)

Hi all

As mentioned on a previous post I am new to the forum and thinking of buying a rx8.

However when I went to the dealership today the sales guy told me you can't change the cd player. I know some of you in this forum have managed it but is it a lot of work or something you would recommend a non-technical person do himself?

The reason I want to change it is I really want a mp3 player.

Also - I hear the rx8 has an amp already, thus can I use that to power another sub I want to add and put in the boot?

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Sales guy is full of ****. The first time I took my dash apart it took about an hour. Now I could change from a 6 disk changer to MP3 player in no time. If you are buying new then tell them you want the MP3 as part of the deal.

I'm sort of a n00b myself but I will try to help shed some light on your Q's:

The only model that comes with a factory amp is the GT model with the Bose system... and even with that you really can't power a sub properly off of it. I have the bose model and the easiest cheapest way to get MP3 into your car is to get something called an "IceLink". Its basically a connector that hooks an ipod into the head unit and uses the "EX" input channel to get your songs playing, very smooth and nice, I have one and completely recommend it.

I'm actually researching upgrading the factory bose system with all new fronts and rears and possibly an aftermarket amp to push them all. Everything I've read says the bose system pretty much sucks.... and if I would have had the option of NOT getting it, saving the money, and putting aftermarket stuff in I HIGHLY reccommend that.
