center speaker quiter than rest?

I just purchased a used Rx-8 with the bose system. I noticed that the center speaker is considerably quiter than the rest of the system. I almost have to hold my head up next to the speaker to hear it. I dont think the amp is bad because there is normal sound coming out of it, just at a lot lower level. Is this the way it is supposed to be? Thanks for any help you might have.

it's that way by design, if it was too loud it would jack with your staging something fierce, we experimented with replacing it with something louder on mine just to tinker, and when it was louder it dominated the stage and threw everything off
