CD Player

Hello, say, I've got an 04 rx8 with the factory bose in dash 6 cd player. The CD player stopped working a few years ago... everything else works

How would I fix it. I was told I need to get another complete unit and put it in. Are there other options to fixing it?

I priced after market a few years back, was a bit pricey ($600 or so)

Has anyone replaced the complete unit themselves / how'd that go?

Thanks, Paul

Do you have a single disc or a 6 disc changer? I don't think a single disc or a single disc/mp3 would be $600. I would look at some of the part outs in the parts for sale section, you can definitely beat that price.

You can get just the six disk changer and mount it to your existing unit. I found one on eBay for $125 last year. Just search for one. There's a good DIY for removing the radio on here

taking the radio out is easy. 1 on scale of 1-5.
and then it's just a few screws to remove the changer.

the only tricky thing about it is getting to the hidden bolt, you have to contort and have a ~12" extension + 10MM socket. after that it's just getting the the wires unplugged in the right order to work its way out.

It's a 6 disc...in the dash. So, is it right that I don't have to replace the whole thing, ie radio, cd layer etc?

Would you share more about that? The parts I've found, and the dealer, said the whole component needed to be replaced. I'd like to do what you did!

Thanks.

Would you say more about this, like how to do it. When I went to the dealer, they said I'd need to replace the whole thing....

You only need the CD changer, since that is likely the only problem.

If you're interested, I have a Bose 6-disc changer that I'd be willing to part with.
Send me a PM.
