start at www.mp3car.com and a carpc is more of a hobby thing atm, if you can build a computer and do so you wouldn't have this question . So if you are a newb i would check out the inifil g3 or whatever it is called (again at www.mp3car.com) they seem to be the biggest forum for carpc's

If you mean Front Ends, you can download most of them for free. A lot of people like Road Runner. If you want to use Street Deck, you'll have to purchase it. But yeah, you should start with mp3car.com, most of your questions are answered in their FAQs.

and +1 to the mac mini if i had to buy a thing to put in my car it would have been that
it will fit in the rear console like they were made for each other. and if you don't like the mac os on it you can bootcamp to xp just fine
