Angry Can't Win!

Well wonderful (not)! Dension just cancelled my order for my Icelink Plus for the rx-8. They say they're not going to be making them available for that vehicle any longer.....after waiting 6 weeks for the order.

So now what? I can't locate any other options online which will provide text output to the H/U display for the ipod.

Any suggestions?

yeah same here but i only waited 2 weeks before i called and found out that they arnt makin it anymore...she did say they are working on something for us but could be 4-6 months....i bet she's full of it.

i called NEO and got them to send me one...just got it today acually; unfortunatly i think i got one of the last units....supposedly i dont know for sure. you should call 858-689-4141 EXT. 113, and talk to Logan about trying to get one. If not try to talk to dension to see if they have any icelink 1.1; its what you want anyway (better imo - https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-interior-audio-electronics-24/ipod-integration-navigation-57042/)

of course you can also got the PIE route....same deal except from what i understand dosnt let you use steering wheel control, but a whole lot cheaper too. after all the icelink is just a PIE w/ a tiny circuit attached.

Icelink 1.1 doesn't seem to provide text display unless I'm missing something. Actually, I can't locate ANY system now that works on this Bose H/U with text display. I've worn out my welcome with Mazda USA, Bose, local dealer parts dept and now (apparently) Dension.

Perhaps its time to unload an Ipod cheap!

no matter what you got if its the bose or non-bose cd player its not going to do id3 text.....the icelink web-site is a bit deceptive with that. Our cd players arnt compatible only the BMW ort aftermarket will do it, oh and prolly the MP3 player the 8.

Do you have the factory nav in your 8?

If so Alpine is releasing a unit (model VPA-B211A) that will allow you to integrate with your factory nav your iPod (using model KCA-420i) and control it though the nav screen. It will also allow you to hook up an external video source (up to 2 i believe) and watch them on your nav as well.

I will be getting this piece as soon as it is released and hooking up my Alpine Sirius tuner.

I will be posting as soon as I get it in with pics and whatnot.

No, no NAV system in my 8.

Ya know? Its not that tough, electronically speaking, to capture the ID3 text and send it to the H/U's display. Not that I'm in a position to develop such a system but I know enough about electronics to know that its just not that hard to do. I'm quite surprised that nobody has released such a device given the demand for it. I thought Dension was onto IT....don't really know why they stopped supporting the Mazda line (they didn't say why in their email). From all that I could glean, tho, the Icelink Plus did, indeed, support ID3 text to the h/u.

Anyway...somebody else (Ion next generation?) is going to learn from their R&D that its not a big project to design such a hardware device and release something into mass-production.

In the meantime, I'll continue to scream in agony each time I turn on the Ipod in the car with the lousy FM modulator. I don't want to direct-wire interface without text display (don't really feel its worth the effort unless the installation is seamless, neat in appearance and supports text).

So BOSE puts this "auxillary" connection on the back of the radio.....for what? Was that supposed to be used with their MP3 player? Why bother putting an auxillary input on the system if there's no BOSE-designed function for it?

Grief!
