So I had my friendly neighborhood Mazda dealer install the CD/MP3 player I purchased from Trussville this morning, and I think it's DOA.

Although I haven't tried with a burned MP3 data disc (need to get home from work first to do that), the player won't read any audio CDs, be they a burned CD-R, or one that's store-bought.

The system tries to read an audio CD for a couple of seconds, then doesn't recognize it and spits it out.

The dealer is ordering another MP3 unit under warranty and will replace it, but I'm curious whether I'm missing something here -- I assume that the MP3 unit *should* also play audio CDs when it's working, right?

 

Yup, it should play your run of the mill audio CD's.

 

Yep...I bought one...from trussville...DIY install...plays regular cd's...with cd text! :D

 

Thanks guys -- sounds like I have a dud then...

 

There is an A/B switch on bottom of MP3 module. For RX-8, must be in the A position or it will not work. For vehicles that can not read text to screen use mode B.
