Bose Problem pls help

Ok, this is what I heard sorry if this sounds stupid. I was just wondering, I read somewhere that the HU of the RX-8 with the bose system is not bose, and is the same HU as the base model RX-8. If this is true, then can I just junk the Bose amp and speakers, and add a whole new sound system?

It's different, the bose HU does not have an internal amp.
