someone a while back was interested in one of these and I came across one today...allows you to place the GPS receiver whereever you want and then have a laptop or a mounted screen with carputer working as a nice nav system

 

you didnt really give the info on the reciever... is it the delorme earthmate one? i heard the battery life leaves a little to be desired, but i guess you could plug it in somewhere
