Blinder M-20 laser jammer installed

I just had the M-20 unit installed today. This should complement the V1 mounted above the rearview mirror. Here are some exterior pics. The two transceivers are located by the air dam, next to the rotary emblem. Ideally, I would have liked to place these in the front grill by I didn't feel like removing the entire front bumper now. Depending on how well they work, I might relocate them later if necessary.

Here are some of the interior pics. The light and on/off switch is located next to the dimmer and DSC switches. This keeps everything looking very clean. I have a clear view of the light while driving too.

Very nice set-up. I especially like where you put the switch - doesn't look out of place and it's in a spot where only the driver would see it and could flip it without anybody else really noticing.

NICE RX8rider! BTW you will be fine with that location...especially if your state does not require a front license plate (mine does ).

Do you mind giving us more details on the install? (like how they were attached in that location? where were the wires run? what did the shop use to make sure the jammer units were level? etc.)

Once I install mine I'll post an extensive DIY with information on multiple install locations and with a unique LED indicator and on/off switch placement...if you don't mind can I use some of your pics as viable alternatives?

BTW www.mazdaparts.com will be starting a group buy of the Blinder Xtreme M-20 and M-40 in the next few weeks...I pestered Matt so much he finally said yes :D

the Blinder Xtreme is by far the best Laser Jammer on the market

I'll try to get some more pics of the wiring, mounting and anything else that may be of help.
Truemagellan: feel free to use any pics that I post. BTW, a front license plate is required here but it makes the front look so ugly so I've done without it. No problems so far.

do you notice that the signal emitted by the jammer ever bounces back and triggers the V1? or is it on a band that the detector wont pick up?

I've heard this is a problem before

you might as well just disable the V1's laser detection capabilities

Doesn't seem to be a problem. Laser on the V1 hasn't gone off at all so far.

...with a slight caveat. It seems like The Blinder unit tested by SpeedLabs was a prototype. Unfortunatly, it seems like the available units are not jamming Atlanta/LA stealth modes (which only make up ~2% of all lasers) according to these guys:
http://www.kc8unj.com/radar/guysoflidar/
http://radardetector.net/Guys-Of-LID...8-28-3674t.php

However, while it seems like Antilaser may be the current "best", the tested unit was a prototype and no one is sure when the actual unit will be available. Therefore, Blinder seems to be the "best" available laser jammer right now. Blinder is aware of the lack of L/A stealth jamming and they're willing to switch the transceivers of your current unit for the new improved/fixed oned that will jam Stealth too. Apparently, they'll be doing that for free as soon as they have they fix
http://radardetector.net/Blinder-M20...X%21-4891t.php
Being that I live in Ohio where they use a lot of laser, I bought the Blinder M-20 with confidence that It'll jam just about everything as tested and the little that it doesn't, I'll get replaced for free as soon as it becomes available

edited as I contacted Leon from Blinder:

"Any tests [prototypes] we have completed have been shipping (retail) units. We tested a prototype about two weeks ago; this unit is still in the testing mode and will not be ready for shipping for some time. You might hear some rumble about Laser Atlanta stealth mode function. We tried this function in the Blinder it took away from all the other guns. Being that the L/A is about 1% of the market and stealth mode 00.1% in use we took stealth function out of the Blinders software. I think this is what you might be looking at. Let me know if I can help out in any way. Please look @ www.speedzones.com, www.radartest.com and www.motortrend.com for any of our latest test scores. Thanks."

in otherwords Rx8rider, as long as the unit that was installed in your car is new stock that came out in the past month (ie wasn't sitting around in a supply room for several months) it has the updated detection technology and reflects the prototypes' jamming numbers on the link you gave

Thanks for the info Truemagellan. One of these days when I have some more time on my hands, I'll think about placing them in the grill using that DIY. In the meantime, I'd like to see how well they work in their current position. I haven't had any "hits" yet. Now that I'm armed with both the V1 and Blinders, I want to see a cop using laser so that I can test out the hardware :D

I think that mounting location will work pretty well.

Since you don't have a front plate, they will probably shoot you for you lights instead. So getting them as close to that area would be ideal.

Honestly though, with a medium toned car that doesn't have a front plate, they aren't going to get a very good signal to begin with so it probably won't take much to jam them.

So once again that location probably will work well

-Mr. Wigggles

Ps. I am thinking about getting some of these as well.

alerts?

I've had my blinder installed for about a year, now. It powers on with no problem, but I haven't gotten any alerts from it. Has anyone gotten hit with laser with this thing installed?

I live in the NY NJ area, by the way.

Thanks.

Unless I'm missing something here, we ARE talking L-A-S-E-R, right? The laws of physics still exist for 8's, don't they? It is impossible for a laser jammer to trigger a detector on the same vehicle (where the jammer is pointed in the same direction as the detector), unless you're using a mirror, or some other reflecting plane. Laser is not RF and there's no backscatter.

All I know is that my jammer has worked 5 times in the last 2 years. And each time, I wasn't able to see the cop until I was way down the road, but sure as s***, he had the gun pointed at me. In fact this weekend, was the most recent occurrence.

The first 4 times were from NJ state troopers. The last was from a NY State trooper.

I won't drive without it, anymore.

Out of all the installation locations, which one do you think is best?

Where did you get the toggle switch with the light?
