Are you referring to the dimmer scroll? As in rolling it up or down will change the brightness of your dash lights, or are you referring to the empty slot (put there for aftermarket use as far as I know.)

On mine, there are 3 switches, the one on the left is the dimmer scroll, in the middle is the DSC button, and on the right is empty, and I think it's just a dummy switch for something if you want to add another kind of a switch.

if its anything but these 3, then its aftermarket.

And if it is, as far as we can tell on the internet.... it could be a switch for a light, or even a button to go back to the future, have you tried flicking the switch at 88MPH??

CA and Euro spec cars have a headlight washer. I don't know where the switch for that is. Could this be it?

I'm gonna wager not OEM and possibly connected to that red wire hanging out by the firewall.

Mazda does not use Carling switches for $500, Alex.

That red wire isn't hooked to anything but it could of been at one point Idk I'll try and track the button down and come back.

prolly something he disabled/disconnected before he sold it. Maybe Aftermarket lights?Halos?

Might have had the lights that go underneath the consoles in the foot wells and just took em out but didnt want to take out the switch because he might have had to cut the plastic and would look ugly and unsellable by taking the switch out.

or it might be the whole back to the future thing. I kinda like that feature better.

Activate the headlight washers by either using the windshield spray 3 times, or else double tap the lever (headlights must be on, in either case).
So no, that button in the OP is not for the headlight washers.

If you look from underneath the steering wheel you can see all the wiring coming from those switches. Just follow the wire and see where it goes. I put a push switch on the right blank that mutes my radar detector.

The real question is not what it was for BUT
What do you want to connect that to?
