I don't know who you are talking to Razz1, but almost all amplifiers have a protection mode. This can be triggered in many ways, including overheating. This will just turn off the amps output until it cools down.

In no way harmful to the amplifier, but it would suck to have the subs cut out.

For one it dont get near hot enough to burn them out as you seem to think. Plus as stated above, newer amps have greatly improved their heat protection. Plus most of these guys will either have sold their car or upgraded to a different set-up within the time you have stated.

thanks! I was just wonderin', some people's "best" might not be others etc., I'm surprised we haven't had like a million flames in here about how much weight it adds and blah blah blah, my car stands to gain quite a bit of weight here in the coming weeks but oh well, I need to calm my driving down anyway, and i don't track my car so it's all good. We did a mock up today during lunch (sad I spend my lunch break driving over to the shop to mess with my stereo but oh well lol) and it's ging to be nuts, probably a little crowded, but nuts

It does take away some performance, but I've seen far worse mods than a sound system done to an 8.

When I took out my subs I noticed a good increase in acceleration. I tried to compensate for the bass lost with some nice components and 6x9s even though they go down low, there really isn't anything like a subwoofer. Now I am looking to add one back in.

is that an OEM part that covers your amp or did you custom make that?

Mazda accessory. I think it's called a 'trunk organizer' or something to that extent. I just had to butcher out the center divider in it so the amp would fit. When I ordered it last year, I'd heard they were discontinuing the item though

I will say it will be all Soundstream equipment, and I'm definitely taking it a bit farther than my previous setup. I don't want to spill the beans, I'm just going to pop up one day when it's all done and post a thread about it, it'll definitely be different than my last setup though

Thanks for the comments fellas, between the 2 subs they share 3.6 cubes of air space before displacement. The box is sealed. Yes it does sound quite good. Upfront I have DLS IR8.2's in the stock locations. The 8 inch midbass is in the door and the tweet in the sail panels. Im using a navone LOC that provides the signal to my Alpine PXA H700.

Trunk space isnt bad at all actually, the box sits behind the edge of the rear windshield, so i still got enogh room to put some stuff in the trunk, but mind you i rarely put anything back there.
