Auto Dim Mirror vs. rear wing
I know this is a topic from the past but... I am a new owner so I read the previous posts but did not find an answer.
Is there a way to solve the problem of the sensor being blocked by the shadow of the rear wing? (besides removing the wing)
Is there someone out there with a clever solution? I like the Homelink buttons for the garage but this auto dim system drives me crazy.

I was toying about with the idea of opening up the mirror and removing the sensor from the PCB inside. Then I was going to run some wiring from the mirror, through the interior of the car along the upper portion of the doors, to the rear window. There I would place the sensor in a small pod or housing at the upper center of the window, and connect it to the wiring running from the mirror. It should work, and it would solve the problem of the wing shadow blocking the sensor sometimes.
Just haven't gotten around to doing it yet...

I had the factory wing. Now the MS wing.
Mirror dim works the same/correct.

Change mirror location and add a filter
I had the same problem: the auto-dimming sensor wasn't reacting when the lights were blocked by my rear spoiler. I did two things to improve the situation.
First, there is a lot of freedom in location of the mirror because there are two pivot points in the mounting arm; I found that moving the mirror to its highest location gave the sensor more visibility to incoming light from the rear.
Second, there is a small sensor on the forward-facing side of the mirror that adjusts for ambient light, to prevent the auto-dimming from occuring in daylight. I added a few layers of semi-transparent tape over that sensor, which shifted the sensitivity of the dimming.
I hope others find these steps useful.

I raised the mirror as described and taped some metalized mylar over the front sensor (from an ESD bag). The auto dim is working better now.
Thanks for the simple solution...
The only issue now is the tape on my mirror.

I don't have a rear wing, but I know from experience, 20% window tint will keep your mirror from dimming too. There is never enough light getting past my rear window for the mirror to recongnize it. Just makes it a little harder to back up at night.

There is a small electrical connector with four wires for the auto dim mirror.
