Auido Advice

So I think I have everything figured out for my stereo upgrade to replace the
Bose system, but I would like some opinions before I make the purchase.

Fronts: Infinity Kappa 60.7 Components
Rears: Infinity Kappa 693.7
Sub: Alpine SWR-1042D
Amp: Alpine PDX-1.600 for the sub
Amp: Alpine PDX-4.100 for the rest
LOC: AudioControl LC6

I plan on running a 4 gauge wire back to the trunk and splitting it into
2 8 gauge wires for the amps.

Also what online retailers have people bought from?

Thanks

Heya,

Your setup sounds good but with those amps I'd run 4 agw to the amps too. What kind of box are you going put the sub in?

As far as retailers I've used SoundDomain, Crutchfield and although recently I upgraded both my subs 10s to Alpine SWR-1042D, my amps to the PDX 1.1000 and the PDX 4.150 all courtesy of Ebay.

The prices on Ebay were less than half of the other retailers but no factory warranty (keeping my fingers crossed). Ohh StreetWires makes a really nice fused distribution block what does both positive and negative.

Good luck with the new sound system.

Thanks for the info.

I've built a fiberglass box for the sub similar to the 4080 boxes.

yeah man.. it sounds good. good choice on the amps! i would suggest going with a bigger sub amp, just incase you want to upgrade later on down the road. the 1.1000 is SAWEET.

have you figured out how to mount your amps yet?
here is my trunk layout - My Trunk it would be better if i had any fiberglass skillz.. but i love it as it is!

Ha dude, you are right across the pond from me. I was one of if not the first in Canada to solve the headunit issue in this car. Drop me a line at 1-888-881-9911 if you like. PM me your number and I can call you back if you prefer. MSN is a great way to talk as well, forbidden@telus.net

I would be using the Audio Control 6XS in this system as a nice upgrade from the LC6i. If you are after stunning response on the speaker system, Morel is a huge upgrade from the Infinity speakers you are considering. There are many amps on the market to suit this system. I would be considering a Memphis Belle or the Eclipse ICEpower XA5000 as well. A single 5 channel amplifier may be beneficial in this system. The XA5000 being a nice match of power from the back to the front.

I think I'm going to try to mount the amps behind the wheel well on the passengers side. My plan is to build a rack that will hold them on a downwards angle, one above the other. I'm playing around with the idea of having them mounted on lexan and back lighting it with leds.

That Audio Control 6XS just found its way on to the list in place of the LC6i.
I'll look in to that Memphis amps you suggested forbidden, but after my last experience with Eclipse I don't think I'll ever deal with them again.

Anyone ever deal with woofersetc.com ? I came across them in my hunt for online retailers. After searching around about them I've found a few complaint, but a lot of positive feed back. Thinking about ordering through them now.

do not use a fused distro block, its next to worthless, and only reduces voltage to the amps. the amps already have fusing built in. again, good choice on the amps, and sub as well. i am also running the pdx amps myself, 1 each to the front doors of the 2.150, and one 1.1000 for the sub, i was using the type x 10, but i think im gonna switch up to 2 type r 10's. for my front doors im using the diamond d9 components. the highs are crystal clear and can be loud as, well, you get the idea

I looked at woofersetc and they do have some pretty good reviews but check out their return policy below

In order to maintain an inventory of 100%, Brand New, A-Stock, untouched products, WoofersEtc.com cannot accept products for return or exchange. In some instances the WoofersEtc.com Management may accept returns of brand new unopened products for credit, out of good will. In such cases, shipping is nonrefundable, and a restocking fee of 25 to 35% will apply. To apply for a credit/refund, please contact our Customer Service Team, they will instruct you with the correct steps to take.
I dealt with Ebay retailers with better prices and return policies. Also woofersetc is NOT an authorized internet reseller so its the same as buying from Ebay no factory warranty.

You guys need to realize something that does not apply to the vast majority of you. If the person making the post is from Canada, no online retailer based in the US is that persons best interest to do business with. There are way to many pitfalls for us to justify doing business with them.
