Audiolink/XCarlink help?

Well I recently bought that ipod adapter (audiolink) from the RPM store, now called xcarlink. Just wanted to hear what some of you people who also have it did to install it. I actually have it working fine, installed it by removing the radio and such. I left the adapter box inside the radio though, so I only have the cables coming out. Is that smart? I also forgot to screw in some screws which I left behind. 3 to be exact. I think it's the radio's screws.

I'll take some pics once I get home.. This is what happens when you work on your car while working at Radioshack.

3 screws I forgot I had left..?

I'm thinking of getting the same or similar unit. Did it come with RX-8 specific instructions for the install as far as removing the radio, etc? Where did you run the cable to? Is it possible to run it back into the cupholder without the cable exposed anywhere or cutting any holes?

It doesn't really say how to remove the radio. I saw this thread, looked at the video and did it. Not hard. https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...removing+radio

And yea, I'm running 2 cables, the ipod cable and an aux cable, which I connected to the xcarlink box adapter, out through the cup holders. No wires show, so all I do is open the center and whip out my ipod or w/e I can connect the aux to.

I did make a little hole on that little cover you see where the cup holders are at. Actually my friend made that hole with a screw driver. Looks pretty good. Although I guess we were in a rush and forgot to screw on 3 screws.. So I'll need to remove the whole thing once again.

But it's worth buying imo. Excellent sound.

Thing is, is it safe leaving that xcarlink box inside our radio? Don't know if it heats up or something..

i don't mean to thread jack, but can you change songs via ipod while its playing? or through head unit and steering wheel controls only?

and i think you can leave it there, i mean where else would it go? does it have any screwd or any way to tie that thing down? especially for us, our 8's pulling all those g's the xcarlink is gonnna be flying every where abd banging everything!

I don't know about the xcarlink specifically. There are several units out there and I've seen at least one where you setup up to 5 playlists on your ipod that you control through the head unit or steering wheel controls using cd #2 through #5. Cd #1 plays the ipod but allows you to control via the ipod interface. Don't remember which unit that was the case with though.

Yea, you can set it to control both from the steering wheel/radio or ipod itself. I think I can run playlists also, not sure. Haven't really messed with it, I've just played random songs from my ipod. I will tell you, sounds like I have more bass when I'm on the adapter.

btw, I added some pics of the cables.

Oh and today for some reason my radio display was going crazy when I started my car.. Then it fixed itself? I'll need to check out the whole thing again.
