Only if you have the MP3 player (it's a different version of the single disc CD player that will play MP3 CDs.).

I don't understand that answer. It was a simple yes or no question. So again:
Does the CD player that comes with the GT package play mp3 CDs?

As jtimbck2 had mentioned it will not play unless you have the optional MP3 player. Seemed like a pretty simple answer to me.

I have not seen an mp3 player option in any of the packages. Is it a 3rd party addon or Mazda sells it?

you can get it through mazda, or there are probably some 3rd party places to get it as well.

If you would read what he posted you wouldn't get flamed, the answer is not as simple as yes or no, it can, or it can not depending if you order the mp3 player or not. That is like asking if has a 6 disk changer, yes or no. Well if you order the 6 disk changer it has one, if you don't it doesn't . . . So to be plainly clear, you can order the Bose system with an mp3 player, then it will play mp3's. Was that easy enough for you to understand?

My single disc cd player plays cds that I create from from music downloaded on my home computer. I always assumed that the music I downloaded to my computer were considered mp3s. I'm fairly certain I don't have the optional mp3 player in my 2004.
What is it that I'm not understanding properly?

An MP3 capable player can play discs burned as data cds with MP3 files on them. You're not burning a music cd, you're burning a data cd.

For this reason, I can get on average 10 albums on a single data cd and select between them on my MP3 capable player. Its like having a disc changer but with one disc....

MP3 -vs- CD format

Tracks on a 'normal' or store-bought CD are not the same as MP3 files from your computer. MP3 is a 'lossy' compression format invented so that audio files can be converted into a much smaller footprint.

If you stick a store-bought CD into your computer and then explore or browse the drive, you'll see files like 'Track01, Track02', etc, and (if your extensions aren't hidden) a .CDA extension.

CD players have to be specially built to A) read a disc that was created by a computer, and B) read MP3 files that were created by a computer.

Unless you order the optional MP3 CD player, you only listen to CDs that have .CDA tracks on them, not .MP3 tracks.

Csaba, both Rosenthal Mazda and Trussville Mazda have it, for the same price. Rosenthal sells the MP3 player and the face plate separately, Trussville has both in a kit.

MP3 player

Trim panel

At Trussville Mazda you need to go to the parts section and list the RX-8 parts - you'll find the kit there.

Also, it doesn't hurt to ask Mazmart, maybe they have it as well, for a somewhat better price.

Sok sikert!
