From what I've read - it doesn't charge 3G and it turns off the screen so you can only control it from the steering wheel - if you hold down home button on 3G for 10 secs the screen will come back on but steering control does not respond then

Well you could easily hide the cables, that's not a problem at all. One thing you could try is once you have attained the headphone jack from the headunit, run it through the center console next to the shifter and on the side of the cupholders to the "secret" compartment where your arm rests. There is a small opening in the back that you could run your wire up through.

Thanks for the reply dude. I've read on here that if you hold the "Home" button down on the iPhone for 10 seconds, it unlocks the screen....is that true for those that have the OEM adapter with their iPhone 3g? Also, can anybody confirm that their OEM adapter does not charge their iPhone 3g?
no it does not charge the 3g. you need that adapter inorder for it to charge and i have yet to try that.

This sounds interesting.
In my case, I hooked up an iPod and the iPhone separately.
The iPhone connects with a Cigerrette lighter connection. I've removed the plug from the dash and stored the connection completely out of sight. The wire jumps out from the left side of the windshield, where it connects to the iPhone G3 window harness. It's a pretty sweet setup.
The iPod just hooks up to an OEM unit that plugs into the cars radio. iPod is tucked away in the cavity of the car too.
Out of sight out of (thief's) mind.
That's what I recommend, this way you are not having to mess around with GPS / Music / Phone call all at the same time - on one screen.

Ok the 5V Dice kit is in :
Once everything is connected getting the iPhone to play via sat is a bit tricky - read the manual.
The good:
1. Sound through iPhone connector is great - no easily audible distortion.
2. It does charge the iPhone 3G!
3. It shows a title of the song from your iPhone's mp3s
4. It has jumpers on the module to select between letting you just control everything on your iPhone or through the steering wheel (in which case iPhone controlls are disabled, but holding the home button for 10 second will give you the controll back and disable car controlls)
The bad:
1. Car controlls are WORTHLESS - you need to make special play lists of your existing music for it to navigate to next song properly AND it absolutely can't controll something like internet radio.
Do yourself a favor and just set the jumpers to disable car controlls so you don't find yourself holding down that home button all the time.
CONCLUSION:
DICE is a good way to go, but forget about controlling your songs from the wheel. Just get some cradle, mount it within an easy reach distance - wrangling your iphone out of the the cupholder to change station/songs all the time is a pain in the az z. I'll be getting myself a cradle and moving the cables next.
I did it the wrong way, so you don't have to
Here's where I got the (very fast delivered) kit:
http://www.mp3carpros.com/product_in...products_id=80
get the 3.5 to 3.5 cable for analog in:
http://www.mp3carpros.com/product_in...products_id=75
get the cradle (though I haven't tested this one out yet):

I'm definitely sold on the Neo ProLink PODMAZV1 for $180. Cheaper version of itself for $140. The only difference is you dont get the extra audio output.
http://www.neocaraudio.com/product_i...oducts_id=1061
According to their site, they have pretty much solved all the issues that have been mentioned.
It will charge and play through the SAT port. You can use the steering wheel controls to control or use the iphone itself. But both are active.
Plus you get the added bonus of an aux audio port to use for laptops, DVD players, or any other audio output ($180 version)
As far as holders, I've been using the ProClip mounting system.
http://www.proclipusa.com/home/home.aspx
The holder/bracket is absolutely solid. I've gone through several phones in the last year (blackberry, motorola, iphone) and the only thing I had to buy again is the specific phone holder to match the phone but the bracket remains the same.
$30 for the bracket & the actual specific device holders can vary depending on if you want it for your cell phone, ipod, iphone, or other devices. To stick with the topic, the iphone 2nd gen 3g will cost me $25. But different options can go up as high as $99. (Padded, Charger, etc...)
I'll update everyone once I purchase the Neo ProLink to match up with my new iphone 2nd gen 3g.

I'm using the Axxess iPod adapter in my RX-8 with my iPhone 3G. It comes with both a 3.5mm plug and the iPod/iPhone cable. Like the others it requires firmware 9.55 or higher, and doesn't charge my iPhone. However, it has never locked up my iPhone, the steering wheel controls work, and it displays song titles on the radio LCD. I've also taken the car on a few 8hr trips with the iPhone in the adapter, and with regular calls/txts and I've yet to come close to killing the battery. I guess if I was streaming Pandora in the car (which I've done) for 8hrs it'd kill the battery.
So personally, I not bothered by the fact that it doesn't charge my iPhone. It does everything else very well and as such I've been very happy with the Axxess adapter.

Sorry guys it took forever and a day.
So here's the scoop.
After I plugged in my entire set up, it all worked as promised on the site. Full steering wheel controls, full Iphone controls, and I had the ability to plug in anything that had a headphone jack.
It all worked seamlessly once you got comfortable with the on the fly adjustments of your audio source.
The reason why I have not done a complete / thorough update is because the main hub of the product started to act up.
After working with their tech support team (very helpfull), we decided to replace the whole set up for defects.
So thats where I'm at right now. Waiting for my replaced product to be shipped back to me.
When it worked, it worked great and I said "its worth every penny." Unfortunately I got a defective item and had to get it replaced.
I'll have something more detailed once I get my item back in a few weeks.

I've decided to go with a Grom Audio V2 unit. I'll take pics of the install and report back about my experience as soon as I install it next weekend.
BTW Grom V2 costs ~$90 and the sound quality is supposed to be great and fully compatible with my iPhone 3G.

Once I get my product back, I'll pay closer attention to the LCD and I'll provide more feed back.
However since the 3g does not get locked up, you are able to see all the song details on the phone (album, track names, artist info, etc...) while you scrolled through using the steering wheel controls.
I really did like the fact that you can set up your phone to play all songs by artist for example, shuffle it, then just use the steering wheel controls to move from one song to the next. So however you like to play your songs, its convenient to have full control of the phone, steering wheel controls, and radio controls.

I'm looking forward to this update. I'd like to gauge if I got my moneys worth vs. the set up you have.

one option is to get the Belkin Tune base and do the aux diy. The belkin tune base FM sucks at the fm transmit.
I currently have a 3GS and use the Belkin tune base. i bluetooth to my jabra 700 hands free the fm tune that to the radio. It provides better transmit power than the tune base does.
I will be doing the aux input diy. The tune base comes with an extra aux out put so i'll just use the tune base with the aux connector.
The tune base puts the iphone in convenient location for easily swithing stations or tracks.

I am using the Grom AUXin with the Kensington LiquidAUX.. http://us.kensington.com/html/14492.html
I have the Kensington plugged into the line in from the Grom and then all I have is the one wire to the iPhone 3GS. It charges and plays music through the dock connector.. really clean and simple.
