(another) Sirius in the ashtray

Here is my starmate replay sirius radio, in my ashtray. It took me about 20 minutes time to do.

That looks great, I just purchased a Starbase model and I'm considering the ashtray as well.

I wanted to ask how you are interfacing with the factory stereo; FM modulator? Where did you mount your antennae?

I was thinking of just placing my antennae on the dashboard. Anyone think that will be problematic when it comes to reception?

I really wasn't interested in getting a sat radio setup till I saw this. I really know nothing about setting these things up, is this something I can buy and set up myself?

JRH13NJ, did you have to modify anything in the tray?

Also in concern to units:

Is that the only one that will fit in the tray? Is that a "good" model?

Yeah I had to cut and trim pieces off in the tray in order to make it fit

I love it, this one is probably the biggest one that will fit in the tray after the tray has been modded

hehe I guess I might be able to do that later, just took a dremel and cut the middle piece out first and then using the dremel I just sanded down some other areas in the tray

Looks very nice. I originally put mine there with the plan to eventually put it in the sunglasses holder for a stealth install, but if you can close your ashtray lid then I say POST SOME PICS and a DIY!

The guy at Best Buy said that the number buttons at the bottom of the unit tend to burn out so I bought the warranty. So far, so good.

I mounted the antenae on the inside rear deck with some doublesided tape. I want everything as hidden as possible.

I'm baffled. Why wouldn't you just acquire a Mazda OEM Sirius unit? Is your head unit not Sirius-ready? This is not a flame at all, I am an XM'er and of course I had no alternative but to use an aftermarket setup, but it seems like a lot of work for you to have gone through if you had the option of the ULTIMATE in clean.

$600??

I've never looked into Sirius, so I honestly didn't realize it was so expensive... I thought that the Mazda setup could be done for a lot less than that!
