Alpine PIE adapter Install DIY Help (from M3 forums)

My girlfriend just bought a Mazda 3 (Sunlight Silver like mine :D ) this evening and so I was searching around for different mods for her (like adding video to her Nav system...in hopes of helping with my quest for plug and play video )

Well I came across this...a guy who did a DIY install of the Alpine adapter based on help from the rxclub forum...this was on the mazda3forums.com

I thought this would be helpful so someone even though I have the Nav unite and HU ver. 9.53 so I can't use the Alpine PIE adapter anyway oh well I don't mind waiting for another great solution (that I not true I don't want to wait anymore)

Don't forget, the lower Head Unit versions just means that you can't do the RCA Auxiliary input combination. You might still be able to use the PIE adapter for an external Alpine CD changer (or other device). As we understand it, the issue is that the Head Units are waiting for confirmation that a disc is loaded and ready, and it won't get that from a simple RCA input setup. All that has been tried on this particular forum is that RCA input adapter. For all we know, an Alpine CD changer (or maybe the new Alpine iPod adapter that's coming soon? Maybe?) will send the proper code to make the Head Unit happy.

From that thread:

"Alpine is coming out with an iPod interface which would connect to the cd changer (AI-Net) port on the head unit and the iPod, the model is kca-420i"

This is this the iPod adapter.
