2005 rx8 upgrade of CD to add Ipod

My 6 disc CD changer failed. Recently I went to the dealer to order a replacement but was hopeful I could upgrade to the newer units with Ipod connection. Dealer told me that this won't work for 2005. Said they tried with a 2006 and the pin connectors(or something like that) weren't compatible. Can anyone confirm this is accurate?

My brother installed a Dice connection through the satellite radio slot that allows me to play my Ipod (though it won't charge my Itouch). I am hoping that the dealer won't have to disturb this connection if I just replace the CD.

Any thoughts on what my options are?

Yeah get the Grom! I have had mine for 1.5 years and absolutely love it! Price is great as well. It even charges the ipod with the car off. A huge plus for me.
