10" JL W7 installed

Just a quick pic of what I got installed yesterday. So far I LOVE the sub. With everything adjusted just right it carries out the task of the low notes very well. I suggested this setup for anyone looking for nice SQ.

BTW I took the pic a bit crooked sorry if you have to tilt your head a bit.

OK had an idea this morning and I took out the trunk/rear seat divider and turned the box/speaker around to face it directly into the cab. Looks nice when your in the car and now my trunk doesnt have any ghetto rattle. Doesnt seem like the bass carries quite as far outside the car except for in front now. I like the sound better now than before. Just thought id share incase someone else plans on doing this install.

solid Perfect setup bro. How much did you pay for box and the running of the wires? Looks like your box is sealed as well as what i planned to do to mines. Although the only thing diffrent in my setup i have a rockford amp total watts 1000 amp i think its the 800^2 anyways, I have had my system for about three months now and am waiting on some funds to come by to install the damn thing already, but for some reason unlcle f'in sam wont send my tax return. lol I should of e-filed, live and learn i guess.

Enjoy

oh and one more question is it over bearing when you flipped you box to face cabin and/do the seats shake?

Local shop charged me $55 to run all the wires then another $115 to custom build the sealed box to fit nicely back there. Overall cost me about $1225 but was well worth it. I didnt want anything that was overpowering but enough to be heard if I want to. Sound quality is PERFECT on this sub and I have zero complaints so far. Imma take a pic of the sub from inside the car now and post it in a couple mins.

The seats shake, but it really depends on just how you have the sub dialed in. I have the gain way down. Doesnt drown out any of the mids/highs just rounds it out well. I cranked it up last night and was following a bud of mine in his 2500HD pickup and he said his rear view was bouncing with my beats. Now that I have it toned down a bit though its still pretty loud inside but nothing that is unbearable. So far so good with it.

I pay'd about 450 for my sub
and 200 for the amp. The amp has never been used but it is a 2 year old model. Had a friend who like to buy things and not use ummm, worked out great for me. I was quoted a total of 250 for the wires and a sealed box. so that sounds about right

Yeah its worth just paying a place to do it for ya. Its not hard work just seems worth $250 to not have to break a sweat and have a warranty on the work. JL recommends 500 watts for their 10"s. I had a 1000 watt amp that I had in a blazer and I called JL and they said if your going for SQ just use a 500 watt. Im glad I took their advice. Im not really into SPL all that much. Id rather be able to blast some metallica and sound like a concert rolling down the road than a thunderstorm.

Your thoughts mirror mine. The pass though box rotarygod is making is for an 8" sub. The box he built for eXentric is 2 10" subs and since they face in at an angle there is extra space in front... and that box (Ported) looks like it's taking up the same amount of space as this one...

Its built to specs from JL. 1.25 internal volume is what they reccomend for this sub and thats what its running with. Remember this sub itself weighs 30lbs.

30lbs.... ouch! That's some serious magnet.

Well if it's built to spec then...

yeah the sub is f'in heavy and that box looks like the specs i have on my manual. Its really not that big, but the box and the speaker should weigh in at about 50 pounds i would think

3/4 inch mdx board right?

I hope the do as good of a job on myines as they did on yours.
Do you know if they made an holes through the firewall and/or did they go with an existing one.

30 lbs ! Add 15 more and you have a full size spare..

However I do like the way it shoots through the Acess door.
I'm going to see if I can squeeze a 12" facing forward.

They went through an existing hole. I stopped by there today and the guys told me they liked the idea of facing it that way but noted on how much bass I was loosing. I didnt think it was that big of a difference until they used one of their tuning CDs and it really did drop a lot of SPL by doing it that way. So due to popular demand I turned it back around and just adjusted the gain on the amp down a bit to avoid some of the ghetto rattle. I really liked the way it looked facing out the seats but I didnt pay $1200 to look at it. Sounds amazing though and JL has really outdone themselves on this speaker. I have friends who have 2 12"s in their trunks and my one 10" hits almost as hard but the real benefit is in the sound quality. 10"s just seem to hit so nice and crisp in sealed boxes I love it.

I suppose. But you're the customer and it's your stuff. If you like it forward and get less rattle, who cares if you're loosing SPL... you're not in a contest. That is another feature I like about rotarygod's pass through box design... Another thing is that I don't pay $1200 for something to not look. My box building and installation skills are rusty, but that's a simple built to spec sealed box. You paid for pro service, and you got it... it's well built. But you paid $1200 for a plain jane sealed box that they are making you face in your trunk... you are getting rattle you don't like and you had liked looking at your speaker.

It's your money and your car. As you're happy... that's all that matters.

This is just what I would have told them.

Very true Japan8. What I decided to do is leave enough slack in the speaker wire so that I can just flip the box around when I want to. Im not really into SPL anyway so I have it facing the cab for now. Im considering putting something for SPL in the new 4runner I just bought. Anyone have any suggestions on what I could crack some pavement with?

I posted to this thread somewhere else but what you should do is rip out all the trunk panels and dynamat the hell out of the trunk, if your plate rattles you can always go buy some one sided sticky foam that comes in thin strips and stick it to your plate and let the non sticky side rest on your trunk. That should take care of most of the rattle.

Like you said. you paid $1200 for that setup and the 12w7 is made for SPL. If you just wanted it to look and sound good instead of head pounding you could have gone with a much cheaper sub and still have gotten great sound.

Try the dynamat, i think youll be happy with it

But the box and speaker are already weight. Dynamat is just more. I personally want to stay away from use it at all if possible
