Window Tinting: What percent, how much, and pictures
 

I have a sunlight silver RX8, and this weekend I am looking to add on my first simple mod. Window tinting. I want to tint all 5 windows (two doors, two rear doors, back windshield) I know that it is basically illegal to tint the front two windows, however, I'm hoping that the tint won't be so extremly dark that it will stand out. The tint I'm looking for is basically the kind of the stock tint on the back windows of stock cars (the cars that do come tinted that is) That isn't too dark where a cop will see it a pull me over right away, but it isn't too light where the heat/sun will shine directly on me.

Could you guys help out, what percent tint did you get on your windows and how much was it? Also, if you have pictures to show, it would be great! Thanks in advance!

Got my car tinted about a week after I bought it. Tint is important here because its always sunny. I actually did mine legal 35% on all the windows except the windshield, with just a 5% strip at the top of the windshield. The interior is black so it helps the tint to look darker. (my sig pics are before the tint) 35% is pretty light tint, shouldn't attract unwanted attention from cops...

forgot to add that it cost me about $180

HardHitter, I had to look through my pix to find one that shows the tint properly given reflections, etc. This pic shows ok.....23% front. The rear is 57% which is within guidelines in Singapore. Definitely go with tint depending on the limits within your State. V-kool protects the car's interior with almost 100% UV protection and keeps her much cooler than without tint in these blazing sunny skies. Best first mod I did :)

I'm about to get my windows tinted also and would like to see more pictures. My car is black and I want to get the smoky-silver type tints. Does anyone have a black 8 with these type of tints?

Here is my Silver. Just got done yesterday. 20% all the way around. Cost $170.

I dont remember what % mine was I did it all legal, the back window is dark and the sides and wind shield are all the same. I also used heat reflective tint, it gets hot in Florida.

I actually just made an appointment for tomorrow afternoon at Flying Window Tint ($135 fair price)...I'll post pictures as soon as I can.

One more for ya...35% tints, they look good but I think 20% look better. Free with purchase.

Does anyone know the limits for tinting in California? I'm thinking maybe 35% tinting all around? Maybe 25-30% all depending on the limit for California. I don't want it to stand out too much where a cop is able to tell right away that it is illegal.

This may be a dumb question, but are the stock windows tinted at all? If so, what "%" would you say they are? Would be interested in hearing some cost figures too...

They aren't tinted I believe.

35% all around.. (except windshield of course ;)) that's what i have..

No pictures, but I did 35% driver/passenger windows, 25% rear and qaurter windows, 5% top of front windshield. 25% in the rear makes it difficult backing up at night. I can't imagine any darker. In NY, I think that even the 35% is illegal.

A word for that whitewater pearl 8 with the tint...SEXY!!! I do love my red, but that white? Awesome, just awesome. Nice 8 whitehot, can you tell I like it?? :D

Hey wannahave! glad to see you finally found tint. That place is only three blocks from where I live. Let me know your % and how it turned out. Anyone know the max % on tint in Florida? Is it 35%?

I know the OEM windows have some sort of light tint...I can see it but I think it's built into the window. The window does come with UV protection already so with tint it will have EVEN more protection...so I figure...

Yeah, Japan8 told me about them and it's only $135 with lifetime warranty and they use the good stuff (forgot the name). Also, they said it will only be an hour since they are pre-cut...COOL

I'm going to ask them what percent is legal (let's say 30%) and then get it about 5% over that. Just in case...

Note: I might hold back since I really want to the oil cooler DIY-home depot mod installed so I can share with you guys the 8 with more than just one mod

Sunlight Silver, back 3 windows: double limo, front windows dark, and limo strip on windshield (not sure of percentages) all Llumar tint film

you have to tint the 8 it looks to funny when you see right through it.

OK, I just gone mine at Flying Window Tinting ($149...ouch, dang taxes...lol)

So here's my dilemma. I stopped by Flying Windows today to see about tint. After speaking with the owner on their selection I decided on the reflective mirror tint. He had two shades one darker than the other. I chose the lighter of the two .It is Lumar and he says it provides best protection against UV's. He said that in HIS opinion the mirrored film looked better on black cars(especially the 8), so I set an appointment for this Sat. When I get home and log into the forum. I started looking at some of the pics posted of the black 8 with non-mirrored tint. Saw some really nice ones too! Now I find myself questioning my decision. Can anyone give me their opinions before Sat?

I went with the black beacuse the black trim between the windows, and the black "dot" where the rear windows open. Call me picky but I don't like the tint not to match the exterior window pieces.
