Window Tint - streaking on side windows, rear bubbling?

I'd like to tint all windows but the windshield - a mechanic friend warned me about vertical streaks with aftermarket tinting due to rolling the windows up and down plus the rear can bubble from using the rear defrost.

Have these problems been solved? Perhaps one brand of film is better than another. I'd hate to have to take the tint off in a year if bubbles or lines develop.

Thanks for any recommendations.

Your mechanic is a moron, unless he's talking about the roll of tint you can get from AutoZone and put on yourself.

If the tint doesn't have a lifetime warranty, don't get it. I've had tint on two cars so far and haven't encountered this problem. Make sure the lifetime warranty includes fading, streaking and bubbling.

Oh yeah, most places sell different types of tint with different warranties at different prices. Make sure you get a LIFETIME warranty. It may cost a bit more, but I like to do things only once. Also, in case they don't tell you, don't open your windows for 24-48 hours after install. Give the glue some time to dry.

Thanks for the feedback

I'll look for a higher quality tint with a lifetime guarantee. Obviously my mechanic friend has a broad perspective seeing all types of cars all day - there must be a a lot of crappy tint jobs out there for him to warn me about them.

I'll post some pics in a few weeks after the job is done.

Thanks for the quick feedback.

Which Speedy Location for tinting?

Hi Rx4life -

Which Speedy location did you use for the tinting? Also what level of tint did you use on the back windows and the side ones?

Thanks for your help - hope to meet you on a group drive.

dyed film tint is reactive to ammonia, so don't use windex or it will turn purple. coated metallic tints (most often what is used in lifetime warranty applications) are much more robust and can be cleaned with anything...it may however effect gps reception since the antenna is not in the glass like the FM.
