TX What to buy first?

well the FIRST thing i bought was clear side markers...theyre already shipped and I can do that pretty easily myself but I seriously have no clue on car stuff...before this i had an 99 camry i never did anything to and im only 19...never worked on cars.
SO,

my choices -

Seibon OEM-Style carbon fiber hood - 480 + free shipping unless someone here has a cheaper one or my VR + cash hood.

Any body kit that I can get painted and installed for less than 2grand.

exhaust and intake - looking to spend less than 1200 if i bought both of those, dunno which ones to really get but i also don't care as long as they dont sound like fart cans and are louder than stock.

any idea on where i should start would be a great help!

what I REALLY want to do is get some custom vinyl decals made but I can't find them anywhere online, at least not the full color ones you'll see if you google that ->. google "itasha" but I know that would get flamed hard here ^_^

what options are on your car?

manual or automatic? trim level? miles?
for under 2 grand you're not going to get a body kit, so get that idea out of your head
if it's a manual transmission i would suggest getting the axial flow engineering short shifter, best mod for the car hands down.

Perhaps a good exhaust? Maybe Agency Power or Racing Beat? Those are only two dual resonating exhausts that come to my head that are well known. Those vinyls are ugly in my opinion.

Also somebody linked me to a body kit on the net a couple nights ago, it was like 550$ for the front bumper, side skirts and rear bumper. I don't know how much that's going to cost to paint tho.

in general, The cheaper the body kit the more it will cost to fit it properly and prep it for painting

Kids... lol. If you think about it, there's a path to follow when doing visible mods to your car. IMHO, nothing looks more ridiculous than a car at stock suspension height with stock wheels but with a body kit and vinyls. But a stock bodied car dropped on nice wheels looks great (I mean, ****, look at my car ). If you really must have a car with a kit and vinyls, those should be the LAST thing you do.

1. Drop it
2. Get wheels
3. Body kit
4. Vinyls

Of course those are just the visible mods, I would hope if you had a car that looked like that, you would also have a few performance mods to back it up.

car details:
automatic, 37k miles, 07, dunno what trim TBH. the dealer wrote that its a GT...but i don't have leather seats so im pretty sure its not? i tried googling and comparing the trims but cant find any with picture comparisons so I unno. have the bose sound system, the wing..and i think thats it.

1. how much will dropping it cost me...and wont i hit **** when i go up driveways etc?
2. I actually like the stock wheels..there are very few sets of rims ive seen people get that i personally like.
3. I found a veilside kit for 600 already painted victory red so it seems like too good of a deal to pass up...veilside isnt my first choice but I like it..and ill never be able to justify a real mazdaspeed kit nor have the money to pay for it @13bucks an hour.
4. nvm i dont think i could commit to ******* up my car just because i might like watching anime now haha, id feel like a dipshit in a few months im sure.

I pmed the guy that sells the AEM intakes and want to buy one if its not godly expensive, if it is i'll find another...and I'll probably wait till someone on the boards sells their exhaust and try to snag it without paying for it new.

one of the main problems is I don't know anyone I would trust to work on my car and teach me some basic stuff so I'll have to pay someone to install everything i buy >_<

i'll be at the houston meet(s) in august since I missed july but im kinda embarrassed with what you guys have done to yours with mine being a stock auto but oh well for now!

Just a few considered comments and answers:

You don't know what trim level you bought? How did you know how much to pay?

You just want to slam your car? Or are you looking for some sort of performance enhancement in altering the suspension? If you just want to slam it on the ground, yes, you will scrape things. If you are looking for some coilovers to help mute body roll, you will prolly lower the car an inch or so. You wont hit anything AND you might achieve that aesthetic aspect of decreasing wheel gap.

A prepainted kit may not necessarily match your paint. Particularly if it is not a MS kit.

Intakes are one of the biggest wastes of $ on the RX8. They dont have any benefit except you might get some odd sounds.

i have the sunroof and bose sound system inside you just cant see it in the picture, and its an 07. i priced it at around 15000-16500 from KBB and blackbook. i paid 15000, if I had of found these forums first before i bought I would have bought someones 06 shinka copper red and just learned to drive a stick.

the veilside kit you mentioned not matching up possibly is painted VR, it was on a VR rx8, taken off the RX8 to sell stock and has been sitting in a box.

and i didn't even want to lower the car really but people up there ^^ said it will look stupid with a kit and no drop which is why i was asking how much that runs/what i need to buy.

thanks for the replies

It really depends. You can just buy springs and use with the stock shocks, spend maybe $200 bucks for the springs, maybe $300 to have a shop install. You can get springs and after market shocks (what I did) and end up spending maybe $800-$900 including the install. Or you can go for fully adjustable coilovers and spend a couple thousand. Since you're driving an AT and it doesn't sound like you're going to be tracking it or anything, just springs will probably be fine for you.

If you like the stock wheels, great, but maybe think about some spacers to push them out a bit. Look at 9krpmrx8's wheels (sig pic towards the top of this thread), see how they are more flush with the fenders. He's running 25mm spacers I believe. If you want your car to stand out, maybe get the stockers painted/powder coated a custom color.

Just so you know, the Veilside kit is pretty universally hated around here. It's really not very pretty and it seems like it's the kit that all the inexperienced tuner-wannabe's get (maybe something to do with Fast and Furious movies). I wouldn't put one on my car if I was paid. Seriously, hold off on the body kit until you've looked around the forum for a while, gotten to know what's out there. That money can be spent on much better things now.

It's better to wait and get what you want than to get crap now and then have to resell and buy the good stuff later.
