I know Im not the first, but i decided to attempt to paint the inside of my headlights VR. Shakeyourbrakes has a thread that i just followed the instructions to. Im still waiting on the paint in the mail but i figured id post a few pics. Enjoy.

failthred. shoulda waited for the finale. at least you actually had the balls to open your headlights. kudos there

Socket7 06-15-2009 09:40 PM

how hard was it to bake open those lights anyways? I'm way to chicken to open mine up.

Looking forward to finished pictures. This is one of the few original things left to be modded on this car.

HockeyRX-8 06-15-2009 10:19 PM

Can't wait to see the finished product...and like the guys above me said...I'm to chicken to open my headlights.

MazdaEight 06-15-2009 10:37 PM

Did you bake it with the HID ballast and bulbs still in the headlight?

Rx8_rotory_Noobie 06-16-2009 05:24 AM

Its really not hard at all actually, dont be chicken. Just remove ALL bulbs, set oven at 220, put em in there for 8 minutes, remove them and pry around the edges where the sealant is. Put them back in for another 5-7 minutes and finish prying them apart. Paint should be here soon, ill post pics as soon as i paint them. Any questions feel free to ask.

im interested to see how this turns out! i have thought about doing this for a while but im not quite sure how it will look on a VR. make sure and post pics when your done.

shakeyourbrakes 06-16-2009 02:23 PM

heyy, look at you, good job. I really liked the look of mine color matched to my WWP, i just got tired of it after awhile. Red will definitely look good though..

MazdaEight 06-16-2009 02:33 PM

So how did you remove the HID bulb and ballast?

Rx8_rotory_Noobie 06-16-2009 06:03 PM

bulbs and ballast are easy, there are two clips underneath a white plastic cover that you have to pinch together, and then just like the rest of the bulbs, you just twist and pull em out.
WANT TO THANK SHAKE YOUR BRAKES FOR THE IDEA AND THE DIY STEP BY STEP!

Im planning on doing the silver parts balck and the black parts VR. Im excited to see how it turns out!!

Rx8_rotory_Noobie 06-19-2009 05:46 AM

YAY! Paint will be here this afternoon! Pics will be up shortly after!!!

ODDDOOD 06-19-2009 09:21 AM

Good deal...I'm now awaiting pics!

I'm def too scared to try this without a back-up set of lights...even then...yikes.

batangisip89 06-19-2009 09:25 AM

damn i can wait to see the results! props!

Rx8_rotory_Noobie 06-19-2009 09:31 AM

I'm telling you, guys, this is a VERY easy procedure, if anyone wants, i can post some pics of ALL the parts and bulbs that were removed from the headlight prior to baking it. That way if you DO decide to do this, you will know if you got all the bulbs and such. And if you have ANY questions or concerns, pleace fell free to ask me. Id like to see some more people do this with different color 8s.

Need some input, should i paint all the silver parts black? Or leave them silver?

MazdaEight 06-19-2009 10:28 AM

^^please do...and I would prolly paint them black because your cars scheme is black and red.

Rx8_rotory_Noobie 06-19-2009 10:30 AM

Same as i was thinking.
When i start putting the headlights back together, ill do a step by step, then post the pictures in reverse, would that work?

Rx8_rotory_Noobie 06-19-2009 08:23 PM

To each his own I guess. Props for being original but I think it looks bad but its not the worst thing on your car.

You got my last name on the windshield. cool..

YeahYeahYouWere 06-19-2009 10:47 PM

Nova, didn't you just get the paint today? Shouldn't you have not sealed the headlights back up for at least a day or two so the paint has had proper time to cure?

Are those LED strips from VLEDs?

thebiggdaddy 06-19-2009 11:54 PM

I don't know. I think the headlights are fine the way they are. To be honest, it looks ricey.
