vinyl instead of clear corners

don't know if this has been mentioned before....but instead of going for clear corners. (and since i do vinyl graphics and decals for a living lol) i used some silver metallic vinyl, made a template and used the vinyl to cover my corner marker lights. the vinyl is translucent so the lights show through at night when they're on. during the day they're hardly noticable at all.

i've done it for other 8's that have come in for tinting.

i've also used the vinyl to make RX-8 covers for the 3rd brake light.

wndotinter 04-09-2006 12:32 AM

They all look bad ass. Have you found a color that would look good with the titanium?

wndotinter 04-09-2006 12:42 AM

titanium is the one i haven't tried matching up yet. couldn't find a good match for green. metallic blue, red, and silver are good. black's easy. the color chart i have for vinyl comes close to matching whatever i need.

EyeBall Fixer...(o)(x) 04-09-2006 12:56 AM

Not bad.
While you're at it, you could also cover your headlights :)

wndotinter 04-09-2006 12:58 AM

actually i did. eyelids LOL

NgoRX8 04-09-2006 02:16 AM

not too shabby.

yiksing 04-09-2006 02:31 AM

That looks great

wndotinter 04-09-2006 02:34 AM

i've got a plotter at my store. i did the rx-8 cut in the vinyl before installing it on the 3rd brake light. one of my customers had me do the rx-8 cut on his corners when i covered 'em. looked pretty cool.

XDEEDUBBX 04-09-2006 10:40 AM

not bad man...thats a great alternative for clear corners...

FABRO 04-09-2006 06:00 PM

Moostafa29 04-09-2006 07:53 PM

Thats not bad looking. Props for being original, and it actually looking good.

tiggerlee 04-09-2006 07:57 PM

How durable is the material? Is this something that will peel off easy? Just wondering just how long those on the corners would last.

tiggerlee 04-09-2006 08:01 PM

Also, I see you applied it over your stock corners. Is that correct? Considering most of the clear corners aren't flush like the stock orange corners, will this apply over them easily? I assume not.

Just wondering cuz I already sold my stock orange corners. :mdrmed:

wndotinter 04-10-2006 10:45 AM

the vinyl i used is a 2 mil cast vinyl with 7 year durability. i've had the same vinyl on my company van (a rolling billboard) for about 6 years. still looks great. peeling isn't an issue. it's been on my corners for about a year and a half.

yeah i did apply it over my stock corners. i'm not sure about the clear corner application. i would think it would be no different. but i honestly haven't seen any clears up close.

Jedi54 04-10-2006 11:09 AM

Looks pretty sharp!

ScreaminRX8 04-10-2006 08:22 PM

So if you could match up Titanium would you be willing to hook us up? I think they look great and alot cheaper also. If so let me know where or when I could purchase!

wndotinter 04-10-2006 09:13 PM

i'm sure i could hook you up....all you have to do is fly me to talladega for the next NASCAR race. :yelrotflm

wndotinter 04-10-2006 09:36 PM

seriously though...there's no reason for me to be sending out/selling these small chunks of vinyl to any members. any vinyl/sign company anywhere can do what i did, inexpensively. these are nothing more than scrap size pieces of vinyl left around my shop.

i had no intention of selling anything.....just throwing another option out there to you guys.

FABRO 04-11-2006 02:26 AM

where are you located wndotinter?

cjkim 04-11-2006 02:37 AM

thats pretty smart!
how much did it cost you?

RX4life 04-11-2006 04:44 AM

^^^^^ READDDDDDDD..

cost him nothin

Well I wash and wax my 8 a lot. You think it will hold up well?
Thanks

Well that would be nice but there is no good quality vinyl shops around here!! I already have the third brake light cover like yours but it is black but the problem is I had to get it off of ebay due to no one around here would do it.

ScreaminRX8 04-11-2006 09:58 AM

Speaking of the Talladega race I live with in 3 miles from the track.

ScreaminRX8 04-20-2006 03:52 PM

I just wanted to let everyone know that I got a guy here that is going to do this for me, I will post pics after I have the eyelids done. He also said he would be up to selling them to anyone who wants them. I will post more info when I recieve it.

Gimlet 04-21-2006 07:18 PM

I'm interested in hearing more for the Tit. Grey. Not far from you in the ATL -

ScreaminRX8 04-24-2006 10:54 AM

As soon as we get the color for Titanuim work out I will let you know. He did not have the color in and has ordered some that is suppose to match so we will see.

StealthFox 04-25-2006 12:24 AM

ey just to let you know the JDM rx8 turnsignals are a different shape than the USDM amber colored ones, so if you're going to be making these for people, you should get a hold of the jdm clear sidemarkers so you can get the proper sizing/fitment for everyone.

Thanks for the info!!

mkztg 04-25-2006 09:45 PM

So you have a local guy who can do the side markers and eyelids? nice.. Can he color match Nordic Green?

What is he charging, including shipping if you could find out. Thanks!

He told me that he could color match any of the colors, I will let you know as soon as he gets the colors in and also I will see what he will charge.

He is using my car for a template. From what I understand he is supposed to get the colors in this week. I will keep you posted and post pics when we are done.

kw1k 04-26-2006 03:15 PM

i'll take the clear corners anyday

great to hear.. :bigok:

StealthFox 04-26-2006 11:27 PM

can't wait to see, ive actually never seen eyelids done in vinyl, i usually seen them done in thins trips of fiberglass

NgoRX8 04-27-2006 12:02 AM

flat vinyl over the headlights look kinda tacky. if there were like somehow made to look thicker on top of the headlights I think i'd be nice.

go back and check the beginning of this thread.

Gimlet 05-07-2006 01:18 PM

Any word Screamin?

alnielsen 05-07-2006 03:19 PM

ScreaminRX8,

Could you publish these templates so we can go out and replicate your success?

ScreaminRX8 05-08-2006 07:53 PM

The guy that is doing this for me is out of town at the moment but when he gets back I am supposed to get with him to get this going! But here is the first attemp at the eyelids and matching the color, the color is a litte off so we are going to try again!
Let me know what ya'll think even thought the color is off.

Gimlet 05-10-2006 12:08 PM

Shape looks pretty good...Keep us in the loop - I'm still interested

BoosTED 05-10-2006 01:26 PM

I like the eye lids wndotinter did a little better with the straight angled edge at the bottom.

ScreaminRX8 05-10-2006 03:37 PM

we could make them as big as you wanted or how ever you wanted. I hope to talk to him this weekend and see where we are at with this, I am trying to get this going for the people that want them.
