Vertical Door Hinges

Hey guys so I just got a sponsorship offer from Vertical Doors Inc. they are going to give me a partial sponsorship on a set of their hinges for an RX8 so my price will be $700 (MSRP is $1299).

Personally I think they look pretty awesome. And I can still open the doors horizontally with their kit if I choose to.

However, I was reading that some of the kits are nearly 200lbs. Ive sent the question of how much they weigh over to them and am waiting for a response.

Now, I have two questions.

First, what do you guys think of this?

Secondly, I don't really have any performance mods, and I don't really intend to add many other than maybe a midpipe and catback. But, how much will this affect my performance.

Sorry if this as already been addressed. Im in the middle of a deployment with the USS Dwight D Eisenhower so internet time is short and I cant really search. Thanks and ill try to post a pic with this.

You got a sponsorship with a stock car? And many many RX-8's have these door kits and it's been discussed many times. I have seen a few RX-8's with them in person and I think they are the biggest ricer mod ever. Oh, and Go Navy!

I saw a few over the weekend and it seemed less practical than the idea of them would suggest. They don't actually open up very far on doors that were meant for normal hinges, so there would be allot of ducking and headbanging to get in and out.

Lol 200lbs in hinges? Add a 200lbs passanger, you'll get a feel for how it affects the car. To be honest, I have never noticed a difference with an extra 200lbs in the car. You're not fighting for lap times.

As for the style, I wouldn't do it but can't tell you what to like. You can do a lot with $700...

Hope things are good on the Ike Always had a soft spot for her for some reason, among all the other carriers. Even follow her Facebook page, you guys are pretty active there, for a Navy ship. I gather you're underwater demolition? construction?

Dude, if you aren't going with Koenigsegg doors, you're just phoning it in.

Do they actually lock open so you can pull on the door to get out?

There's a red series 1 I see around campus here with "lambo doors" as he calls them. Not really my bag, but they are definitely striking. As to the performance, drive around at WOT by yourself, and then with a ~200lb friend in the passenger seat. I'd expect your acceleration to suffer some.
