i disagree with that...the only times i hear the word "rice" is when it's mentioning an import or a domestic trying to look import...for instance, adding a high spoiler to a mustang...the high spoiler is considered rice because it originated with the Supra and then filtered down to the economoboxes like the Honda's and now ppl are putting them onto Mustangs...

japan is and probaby always will be at the forefront of automotive cars and accessories and thus will keep on producing very dramatic styling that we won't be accustomed to for a few years when it becomes old...rice begins in japan and some of it filters onto our shores...the ones that make it and become popular become standard onto future automobiles such as what i have already described in my previous post (ie. bigger rims, low profile tires)...

ie. Ford Escorts with rust spots all over it, bumper hanging off, cracks in the windows...but they have 20" bling bling chrome rims...i don't consider that rice, i consider it ghetto

And the sad thing is, they really are "pimp" in a lot of circles back in Mexico City too.

Nothing sadder than a old rustbucket Datson with some tiny extra wide rims.

Turbo did you get your RX8 to be a driver car, a show car or something else?

If you bought it to be a show car (auto shows not parking lot rice shows) then underglow kit might look good if done well. You'll have to go the whole nine yards with the appearance mods to make your car look good. Making a car look good is not considered rice as long as you don't claim that those mods improve performance. Also, I hope you have an extra RX8 or a garage full of cars because most show cars aren't driven much so that they can maintain their show car appearance.

If you got your RX8 to be a daily driver or to take to competitions like most people here, then forget about the underglow. You can't see them during the day. In most places it is illegal to drive with them on at night. In competition, they have no known benefit and are actually detrimental. Even the ricers acknowledge that those things break or get lost often.

If you are getting those things installed just to drive around in and give your car the appearance of performance or coolness, then that is considered rice and you will get flamed at most car fansites and in public. So be prepared.

Just because your car is not a Honda Civic or an equivalent doesn't mean that it can't be rice. Also, the word "rice" is not meant to be deragatory to Asians when used to describe a car. Even a Ferrari can be rice if modded by the wrong person.

Check out this site for a description of rice cars.
http://www.riceboypage.com

If you do a Google search you'll probably find quite a few sites on Rice Cars and the Riceboy Culture.

This isnt entirely true I turned my daily driven focus into a show car but it was never a trailer queen. Actually most of the cars around me at the two shows I was entered in, before her untimely demise(R.I.P), were not trailer queens. Most show cars have some go to em and unless they have a crap load of custoom work they really see a lot of road time.

X-R8ed I would hope show cars have some go in them and/or some distinctive or unobtainable look to them. That is what makes them worth seeing and admiring. If I wanted to go see a run of the mill RX-8 I would go to my local Mazda dealer. I'm talking about a full blown show car. Not a modded daily driver. I told Turbo he had to go all the way with the appearance mods otherwise his underglow kit would just be rice. I also told him that if this is his daily driver to forget the underglow kit and gave my opinions why it would be considered rice if he installed it. This doesn't mean that he or others shouldn't put appearance or performance mods on their daily drivers.

I drive a lightly modded Z most of the time except when I have to haul people or cargo, for that duty I pull out the 4Runner. (Got to love those RX-8 rear seats.) I've also displayed my car a few times but, I still don't consider it a show car. Most of the cars around me were just like mine, modded driving cars. The cars everybody gathered around and wanted to take pictures of were the real show cars. I never said that show cars had to remain on the trailer. Show cars do get driven occassionally and that's fine because they should. They aren't usually used for the daily commute or the mundane errands. I had a '68 Pontiac GTO that I used to take to shows. Yeah, I would drive it to the shows and when the drag strip was still out here it use to see occassional races, other than that it sat in the garage under a car cover. The guy I sold it to gave it to his son as a present and he used it to drive to school and hang out with his friends every day. Even though he kept it in good condition you can just tell that it was a daily driver. For some reason, I just get a different aura from a real show car than from a car that is regularly driven, no matter how clean or modded it is.

X-R8ed, I'm just curious, how did your Ford Focus meet it's demise?

Unhappy

She met her demise at the hands of an 18 year old with two weeks driving experience and no insurance. He decided that he needed to make a right into a driveway at the ladt second and it wouldn't have been so bad if he wasnt in the far lefthand lane

She was known for her lively interior as well as a little bit of get up and go. I was just months from starting the entire remake of the engine I had planned for almost a year. If I had the time she would have hit about 320 HP.some may say it is rice but I dont see any ricers with over 8000 invested in their ride.

Thanks. yours is nice to and that is saying a lot because I am not a honda fan. You had a white interior, I know that was a bitch to keep clean.

Argh! 320HP from a Focus ... now that would be impressive Too bad we'll never get to see it. Maybe you can spend those funds on RX-8 mods. A 320hp RX-8 ... NASTY!

320 is actually not even to high for a focus. There is a car hitting 440

Angry WTF ?!?!?!?!!!!

Now why-TF did you all have go and start saying things like 'mexicanmobile' and 'Spanish Rice'??? That is absolute bigotry and apparently I am the only MEXICAN on this forum willing to say something about it! I have been a 'member' and frequent visitor to the sight and have contributed my input as best (and as humbly) as I know. I recognize those around me in the forum who are more knowledgeable and well-versed in these fields of automechanics, engineering and often I come here just to learn from them...

Now, reading all of this kind of H.O.R.S.E.S.H.I.T. makes me angry that the moderators have not stepped in to put a stop to the name-calling, insults, racial epithets and slurs being tossed around like it's funny. I know that some, after reading this, will call me a little sensitive, but if one were to check my previous posts to this forum, one would find that though I may not agree with everyone's view of 'aesthetically pleasant,' I have never once thought it proper to degrade someone by referring to them as ANOTHER ethnic group meant to cause insult. It's like using the 'N' word, saying 'You're stupid, and you're opinions suck, because you're just like a ******, honky, *****, jap, kike, towel-headed 'rab, or Hercules the Hindi god of rotaries (that IS a direct jab, Mr. Patel). When was the last time any of you WENT to Mexico City?

I may be just as passionate about this car as anyone else on this forum, but when all is said and done, it's just a ******' car and what everyone needs to remember (those getting slammed for having an opinion AND those doing the 'slamming') is that opinions are like ********, everyone has one and they all stink to everyone else... unfortunately, this forum has now demonstrated that some people can't separate themselves from their dogmatic opinions and truly are just a bunch of DUMBFUCKS...

Not bigotry, just a statement of fact - every time I see a vehicle with wire wheels sticking out past the fenders, it's being driven by a person of Hispanic descent. Sorry if it offends you - none was intended.

Re: WTF ?!?!?!?!!!!

I dunno. I'm a real live Mexican too and I dont give a crap. I probably contributed a bit to it. You know why? Cause it's funny. Lighten up man. It's true some people are morons about insulting others taste, and I've spoken against that before, but if your gonna take offence, remember that ricer isnt exactly clean in the racial departement. Spanish rice got me to laughing, and mexicanmobile is an expression I used back home all the time.

It's as logical as black people calling each other ni**** and taking offense if a non-black uses it too. (and I didnt type it out ebcause I am sure someone would take offense at it, even though I am fortunate and all my buddies here in Miami generally dont give a crap either.)

So instead of taking offense, treat it as the joke it is.

holy good god man, can we say "Anger Management"? it was a joke...well, there's truth to it but meant as a joke nonetheless...i mean are you the type of person, then, that refused to go see Star Wars Episode 1 because you felt JarJar Binks was a derogatory portrayal of blacks? or did you boycott Lord of the Rings 2 : The Two Towers because the title reminded you too much of "The Twin Towers"? sensitive aren't we? tell ya what, you may not have the big crown on your dashboard, fuzzy carpet on your roof, or 10" wheels that stick out 5 feet past your fenders but some people do...and guess what you see when you look inside? Latino Heat! yea, it's funny to me...

it's also funny when i see an Escort with 20" "bling-bling" chrome rims and a pounding system playing hip hop past what the human ear is supposed to be capable of handling...i look inside and it's usually a black person driving it...yea it's ghetto but i think it's funny...

i think it's hilarious when i see a 4 door '87 Accord LX with a 7' high wing, plastic hubcabs that resemble chrome rims, and stickers to cover the rust...rice? yup, it's funny to me too...i look inside and it's almost always an Asian person driving it...hence "rice"...

it's all in good humor but i guess there has to be someone here to ruin the fun...i mean there's always a politically correct bitch in every group, isn't there?

but i guess if you did take offense to it then i do apologize and i am explaining to you right now that it was just a joke...and if you wish, i'm Asian...go ahead and get me back if you like, i honestly don't care...i've been called a *****, jap, ricer, 5 dolla make you holla, oh so sowee so sowee, slant eye, gook, etc...i've heard 'em all and quite frankly i'm immune to it when i know it's just a joke...

Ok, lets drop the entire entire topic. Next time, if you guys see something I miss, pm me about and don't attack the entire thread, and I'll take care of it. Yes, the comments could be(and are) offensive to some, but I take the blame for not catching them. I think it's safe to say we'll all make a bigger effort in the future not to **** anyone off by comments that could possibly be construed as racially motivated. No one meant to insult anyone else.

Again, my apologies guys.

Question light kit

I was wondering if any users on here have placed an underbody light kit on their car, if so, I was wondering how difficult this would be, I put one on my truck but that was easy, I think this car will be more difficult, because I haven't even looked underneath well any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

To my knowledge no one has installed yet
If you know a good custom shop I would have them take a look at it

I DID IT...

...AND I HIGHLY RECCOMEND USING RAMPS(NOT A JACK OR LIFT) THE REAR WAS ACTUALLY THE EASIER OF THE FOUR SIDES. MAKE SURE YOU MOUNT THEM HIGH ENUFF TO WERE THEY WILL CLEAR SPEED BUMPS ETC. I ALLREADY SHATTERD MY FRONT TUBE, OTHERWISE I WOULD POST PIX.

Under Body Neons

I finally took delivery of my arrest me red almost 12 hours ago, well as much as some of you may think me retarded i was considering putting red neons under the chasis. now at first glance it appears the neons would be too low, unless they were further in the middle. i was wondering if anyone was able to put some underbodies on the car in a safe place where they won't shatter whenever a small bump in the road comes. i was considering getting smaller neons and hiding them as high as possible, but somewhere they can still be seen. any suggestions would be welcome, rude comments from people who think the underbodies would be a bad idea, keep them to yourself thanks. and to anyone who thinks they are illegal and will get me arrested quicker, the law in new york (what a traffic cop told me) is as long as the bulb can't be seen without going under the car its legal. thanks in advance for your responses.
