tail light & rear bumper question
tail light & rear bumper question
i have a 2007 rx8 and i want the 2009+ tail lights and i read that you would need the change the rear bumper so that it would fit. I was wondering, since I plan to put a body kit on the car anyways would that make it possible for the 2009+ tail lights to fit properly?
i did search and people said it can be done but it would be expensive. I wanted to know if a body kit would fit the tail lights properly. If nobody can tell me for sure if the body kit would fit snug with the tail lights then i will just get the 09+ lights myself and see how they fit/ try to make them work
hes kidding... but seriously, search harder next time.

This should answer your question about fitting the tails. Yes a good shop should be able to fit them with a good amount of work. I doubt it would be worth it unless you fall *** backwards on a set of 09+ taillights, which are very expensive to buy.

Dude, get yourself a Series 2 rear bumper (oem or aftermarket), S2 taillights, a dremel and go to town. I believe you will need to modify the holes for the lights.

i did search, but the results are 80% irrelevant. But anyways thanks for the link, and i know a shop in Miami where i could probably get s2 lights cheaper. Depending on how cheap i can get them i will most likely get them to work, thanks atleast now i know it is possible.
^That is because very few here have actually done the conversion. This video is a S1 with a S2 update and as you can see they did the bumper and lights. It is not a direct swap though so be prepared for problems.
No bodywork? Just paint and new bumper? Pretty sure that qualifies as bodywork
Especially after you factor in fitting the new bumper. The S2 bumper is notched a little for the S2 lights which is not the case for the S1 bumper. The S1 lights are basically flush where as the S2 lights are not.

^Right but he said no bodywork. Both the bumpers in his picture are S1 bumpers.
For me I would go with the S2 OE bumper and tail lights. They look great when the car is lowered with a nice set of wheels.

Anythings possible. Hell you can get some F150 taillights, lay them sideways and "get them to work." But just like every picture iv seen of S2 tails on a S1, they will look like ****.
The S2 oem rear bumper, plus it's made of better material than Mazdatrix (by AIT) and it will have less imperfections for your body shop to deal with as far as fitment and body work goes than Mazdatrixs (by AIT)
You gonna copy me?
lol. These are similar pricing I got from Galpin Mazda (local dealer that gets shipments daily compared to others that get shipments weekly).
http://onlinemazdaparts.com/parts/20...w=31&maxRow=10
The S2 oem rear bumper cover is $340
The filler is $141
Or you can get the OEM Rotary fog light (Japan parts) $400 shipped.
And there is other miscellaneous stuff you need to buy (bumper bracket, mud guard, bolts, screws, etc.) that run from .00- $00.00

ACTUALLY... im going to ask my own question now. Since people do not like how the S2 lens sticks past the bumper, could you buy a S2 light and a S1, stick them both in the microwave and swap lenses? Is the difference between the 2 close enough for this to work with some extra sealant?
actually, why hasnt a aftermarket company made these lights for the rx8? there are hardly any if not none for the rx8.

The S1 lights are fused together and they are very difficult to separate. Some have done it but the process is not guaranteed to work. No idea on the S2 lights but assume it is the same.
Yes the S1 lights are flush but if you look at S2 cars they are not. The S2 bumper is notched as well where the inner corner of the of the light meets the bumper.
clearcorners.com produces S1 LED tails but they are very expensive.
