Sunroof/Moonroof Install?

Hey everyone,

I own a 2004 RX8, Lightning Yellow, but unfortunately it does not have a sunroof (I bought it because the price was right). I heard from a body tech here in Regina, Sask (Canada) that it is possible to install a power sunroof, either from another RX8 that is already equipped with one, or from another vehicle, or one ordered.

I was just wondering if this is something that I should bother risking ; the tech said it could either be a cutout install or an entire roof replacement. Does this sound a little risky to you, as it does to me, or has anyone ever tried anything like this before?

Thanks a lot everyone!

If you plan on tracking your car its not even worth it to have a sunroof installed.

That sounds crazy...
I suppose you could swap the roof, do the body work and paint it up but it might be cheaper to trade the car...

An aftermarket sunroof is tough on this car because of the roof shape...

I'm interested to hear what you do with it...

Well I did find an OEM moonroof for $350 shipped... but again yes it sounds risky.

Also, I have decided to keep this one a street car ; I'll build some other rotary powered car for the track in years to come

Cutout will not work due to compromising the structural integrity of the roof (and so the whole car). Crossbeams would have to be cut.
Complete roof replacement could theoretically work but it is questionable whether the cost is worth it. I don't think anyone did a complete roof swap and posted about it.

for what it takes to swap a roof would be expensive i have a cut away from a wrecked car. the roof is structural but while its not welded it seem to be put together with a very sticky tape and almost impossible to tear apart.

im not saying its not possible but not cost effective for the labor that would be involved.
