Good news guys, there's a solution to your rotor problems. If you have had your car for under a year and haven't put more than 12,000 miles on your car Mazda has to paint your rotor hubs. They only paint them once, but its covered under the warranty. Here is the email from Mazda.

Getting the dealer to do the M-Flash was hard enough, took me two trips and a nasty e-mail to Mazda USA. Getting them to paint rotors would be a miracle.

Yeah let us know if anyone is successful in getting this. I'm at 3,500 miles and have signifigent rust on the rotors.

Mazda did it for some of us for free here in the UK......problem came back after 3 months.......or maybe they've got some miracle paint specially for the USA

I just contacted Mazda NAO via e-mail after reading this thread and the Specialist who wrote me back told me NO, that I first have to take my car in to have it inspected. Perhaps that is the standard response, but it sounds like you did not take your 8 in prior to sending off that e-mail, am I right? Sounds like I'm getting a little bit o' the run-around!

I wrote him back with the response your Specialist sent you. I'm crossing my fingers he will change his mind before I have to get ugly.

BTW, if you provided the paint, I wonder if they would also paint your calipers for you while the wheels were off??

Saw this product on Trucks (on Spike TV) yesterday. Pretty expensive, but might be the trick for painting the rotors

I had this done to my rotor hubs. They did them without a problem. It took them a day. I got a jeep rental. I picked it up and they painted them like almost chrome color, I thought they would try to macth the original a little better but it looks good so no complaints

for N/C. I called my service manager here in Saint Augustine and told him that I had heard that Mazda was doing this service for the rusted rotors (the dealership in Pensacola told me about this.) Although he had not heard any official word form Mazda, he promptly called the Regional Rep and it was a go.

As stated, one time deal..if the rust comes back, you have to re-paint yourself.

My rotors still look fine, but it's only been a month.

I took my car in for the brake TSB and mentioned the rust on the rotor problem. They emergency ordered by brakes and I was told that my issue would be discussed this with the service manager and they would let me know something when i brought the car in for the brakes. I got a call ealier today from my service advisor saying that the brakes were in and to come in tommorrow if possible. I called back a few hours later, making sure I would get a rental while the brakes were installed and I was told to hold off on bringing in my car because after talking with the Mazda rep, they were authorized to order new rotors (4) for my RX8 and they will paint the rotors per mazda instructions. Since they are doing the other work, I will pay to have them paint the calipers also.

My service department (Independence Mazda) rocks. They did a great job on painting my rotors and calipers and even bedded the brakes for me. Even better they only charged my $53 to do it. I have new front brakes now and 4 new rotors. I'm all set now for my new rims come spring.

I asked my service manager to paint my rotors and they said that they can not. They contacted thier Mazda rep and he said there was no issue with this and it will not be taken care of. I called Mazda and they said they are not aware of any problem with rusting rotors. The said they would set up a meeting with a rep for me in the future to discuss the issue.
I also took my car in for the third time today to have it checked as I am getting 10 miles to a gallon. The last time they said their technician was not available and they would rescheduled for today. Today I showed up and they said they were sorry but their technician is unavailable and they would reschedule again. I am waiting on a call back.

Before and after pics, they even painted my calipers without asking and all under warranty (UK) - however 6 month on and the rust is appearing at the centre of the hubs again.

yep yep my service manager said "yea the 8's rust due to the exposed heat that the brakes cause, theyre so hot that they rust easily, so depending on how you drive your car will determine on how u get rust on ur rotors"

but he said hes more than happy to paint them for me when i get my 6,000 miles/ oil change (o yea i get free oil change for 4 years!!! :D !!! then after that i'll do it myself, part of the contract i signed)

Hey guys.. Mazda is not allowing me to get the TSB for the brake issue... Have you guys had any issues? It appears that there is an extra 0 in the number but my vin falls under the acceptable range.. to me that 0 is just there as a place holder.. is that true?

I bought my car and have it serviced at Koons Mazda in Marlow Heights, Maryland. I mentioned the brake rust issue and they said they would take care of it the next time I came in. When I took the car in for the 35,000 (I think) service, they cleaned and painted the rotor hubs at no charge. I have the titanium grey 8, and the grey paint they used is a little lighter than body color, but still looks great.

What is a HUGE improvement. If Mazda wouldn't paint them I would paint them myself, shouldn't be too hard, just get some spray paint, and tape up the braking surface.
