They have a very high ignition voltage, but that's what the ballast is for. But once they are running they use less current, as stated before.

Ive been running the kit for a while and I like it. Im using 8000K for both headlights and foglights. Im tempted to change my foglight bulbs to 3000K yellow does anyone have any pictures or opinions of this?

Have the 6k headlights and now just picked up some 10000k fogs....
|
Okay so I want to purchase these and I was wondering..
Do I purchase from this link.. http://www.vvme.com/standard-h8h11-h...cPath=44_45_24 or from this link http://www.vvme.com/single-beam-hid-....html?cPath=15 Doesn't the Rx8 come stock with HID headlights? So why would I buy a HID conversion? I bought "HID" fogs off eBay awhile back and simply replaced them with the stock fogs.. no ballasts or anything just a clean swap.. If someone could explain this to me that would be great lol |
If you bought "HID's" and they were a quick swap for the fogs with no ballast, then they weren't HID's. You bought halogen's with HID printed on the box, most likely tinted to resemble HID look. Did they have a filament (HID's do not.) Also, other than 3300k, HID's will have clear glass.
RX8 does have stock HID's if you have anything other than the base model. If you are looking to convert your fogs, you want the top kit, if you want to change the bulb color of stock HID's, you want the second kit in D2S. |

You have to remove the bumper uh? For the fog bulbs?
|
Ya unless you have gumby arms
|
^ lol..
Where's the vleds thread? I bought some 194's and one was damaged.. |
I didn't remove the bumper, but I did remove the splash guards and didn't remove the glare blocker thingys.

Quick question if anyone can help me out. About to install a 12v 55w HID kit for my fogs. Most people recommend 35w but I saw that our stock halogen bulbs are also 12v 55w so I figured I'd give the 55w kit a shot. Not trying to start an electrical fire or anything though.. anyone know for sure if I'll need a relay harness? Thanks for any help!
|
55 watt HIDs take an enormous surge to start up, and will definitely blow the stock fuse.
A larger fuse MAY get you by, but realistically a relay harness should be a part of any 55w conversion. S |
^ Alright thanks, ill have to look into that. Don't believe the kit comes with a relay harness though.. hopefully I can pick one up @ a local auto store.
|
So i pretty much know the answer to this but ill ask anyway...is there any way to just change the bulbs? high/low and fog lights withought removing the entire bumper?
Headlights no, foglights yes? |
^ You really have to remove the bumper. That's the only way, unless you have snake arms.
|
You don't have to remove the front bumper, but jacking it up makes it easier. A couple screws and you just pull the side under tray back and the back of the fog is right there.
|
One of my buddy did it that way with his rx8 when one of his fog lights cracked. Now i know the easy way, thanks.

Bad ass!

VERY nicely done!

He mentioned Hi/Low beams as well. (Only bring that up because I've changed parking lights and fogs, but never messed with my headlights.)
|
thanks for the comments guys...
^^ what are you asking? |
Sorry if i've i missed it but what bulbs are you using in your parking lights and side markers?
|
Ordered Mine from VVME and installing tonight!
|
I saw the pics on Page 2, where else did anyone find to mount the ballasts that seem better??
|
Ok, so I did this mod tonight, I did mess up and it probably took way longer than it should. But After I cut the brown wire, I taped off the wire closest to the relay and then started using the other half of the brown wire to the (first) the black/red wire and my fogs would not turn on. 2nd I used the wire and connected it to the white/red wire and still no fog lights.
I then untaped the brown wire closest to the relay. Since I made a mistake and made the wire to short, I had to come up with a different way to make it work, so I cut the ACC relay (thin white/red wire and connected it to my brown wire and voila it worked, now my fogs turn on intedependently of the headlights and the parking lights which is awesome. OK Now! I also was installing my HID Fogs from VVME. I got all the way to hooking up the Ballast and they are the 35w Kit. When I turn on my Fogs I hear a sound like its getting power but no lights come on. I plug back in my original fog light bulbs and they work fine. Could this be because I have the Fog Wire connected to the ACC relay and its too much power? If so How can I fix that? :dunno: Let me know if I need to explain it better cause I know it seems alot and Im probably not using correct terminology with all this. |

So I just got my 194's in last night and got them installed, I did the Foglight re-wire so my fogs come on separately from my other lights also
I also installed my HID fogs from VVME and OMG the right foglight as you can see below is not working correctly.. what could be the cause? I dont think I touched the bulb while installing it but maybe I did.. any help or ideas? Attachment 238275 Attachment 238276 Attachment 238277 Attachment 238278 Attachment 238279 |
As you #4 photo shows, the fogs have an anti-dazzle shield in front of the bulb.
HID capsules tend to be longer than the OEM halogens, and if the wire touches the metal, can ground out. Pull the capsule and compare it to the length of the stocker.... |

Dumb question...I bought the H11 kit from VVME and realized I did not buy the relay harness for the extra $13.99. Do i need the relay harness or not???
|
No, it's not needed unless you upgrade to the 55w kit.
