does anyone have any DIY information for installing side flares.

I have installed the side aero flares, but I didn't put a DIY together because the directions were pretty straight-forward.

If you do not have the directions, I wouldn't try the install. This is because there are holes you need to drill into the side of the vehicle, and you really need the paper templates that are provided in the instructions. Proper fitment can be seriously compromised if you're even just a little bit off.

Otherwise, cut the rock-shield, drill your holes with the templates, clip in the clips, and you're good to go. Another note to keep in mind is the tape. REALLY make sure you've cleaned the surfaces well (especially under the side panel where it adheres closest to the front of the car, I've seen a lot of people's side flares peeling off there).

Is there anything specific you're looking for on the installation of these?

you drill into the side of your car along the bottom. if you want to call that a vertical surface, then yes.

the instructions are pretty straightforward, but drilling into your car is always risky and a little scary.

With the templates the drill holes are pretty easy to place. I'd suggest taping them to the side aero flares, then putting another piece(stickier than the one taped to the flare) and pushing the flare onto the car where it's supposed to be. The tape on the side aero flare will pull off, but will stick to the car. I found this the easiest way to locate the drilling point with the lowest amount of anxiety about drilling into my car.

landon, im getting scared here buddy! im going to have to locate those templates!!! seriously though, im looking forward to getting them, if you can give me some recomendations on how you did the double tape thing id appreciate it!

LoL. I figured you'd be chiming in here sometime, Kellybrf. It's really not a difficult procedure with the instructions and templates. It's just a matter of time before someone can scan & post. Otherwise, I'm sure Trussville or Rosenthal would be able to provide copies.

I'll be leaving the old stuff intact when I send it to you, if possible. It should only be a matter of finding some 3M adhesive tape at home depot and cutting it to match. tadams is attempting the procedure right now, I'm sure you'll have someone in him to go to regarding the installation of used pieces. I'll be keeping my eye on these threads and try to get as much advice as possible.

thanks, i appareciate it. by the double tape thing though i meant taping the templates to the flares, but loose enough so the other side sticks to the car

Yeah, that was kinda nerve racking. Especially the drilling part. HOWEVER, the nice thing is that the holes are covered by the kit, so really all you need to do is make sure the clips fit in the holes, doesn't matter what they look like.

Just a tip, start small and go big with the drill bits. Nothing worse than to drill your hole and find out the clip is loose. Can always make the hole bigger, making it smaller is a bit perplexing. :D

I just played with the side attached to the flare a little, letting the oil on my fingers compromise the adhesive on the flare side. I used scotch tape for both sides. An easier solution to this would be to use scotch on one side, and a stronger tape on the other. <shrug>

There's a good possibility others have found easier ways to handle this issue, too. Putting a paint or something on the flare clip then pushin it up against the car (since it will be hidden) might be another tactic to think about. I'm sure there's a million easier ways than the way I did it. I was too excited to get it on, so my creativity was somewhat low that day. :D
