So let me get this straight.....
1. You say you don't like your body kit cause it looks ricey. "I have no idea what i was thinking even though veil side is JDM, it's still kinda ricey."
2. I agree.
3. You get mad at me.
Interesting....
Here's what looks ricey to normal people. Most people don't think ricey cars look good, they think they look silly.
1. Different colored parts. Wheels other than a silver or ocassionally body color. Hoods/trunks/panels in any color other than the car's color unless they tie directly into an overall theme of the car. Different colored parts that don't tie directly into an overall theme make the car look like it was in an accident and the owner went to the junk yard and got a new panel but didn't have the cash to get it painted. Not that the owner did that or that the parts are not quality parts but that is the perception normal people have.
2. Too many pointless vents that don't do anything but slow down the car.
3. Strange angles on body kits, all they do is slow down the car.
4. Stickers and vinyl patterns. Stickers scream rice.
5. Wierd off color window tint. Don't tint your windows lime green if your car is red, that's just bad taste.
6. Mods that make part of the car non-functional. Piggybacks that prevent cruise control from working, or that cause a constant CEL, or that don't work with the traction control. These sorts of mods make it look like the owner is cutting corners.
If you want to look ricey and like your car came out of the fast and the furious movies that's ok. Feel free, it's ok to look that way, it's ok to think that is the greatest thing since sliced bread. But if you're questioning the whole ricey look and want to go for a more classy sports car style then avoid rules 1-6.
I guess I don't see your backbone point either. Doing the obligatory body kit, rays wheels, carbon fiber hood, catback, clear corners, turbo, two tone body, strange patterned interior fabric, stickers, chip/piggyback, and gauges isn't exactly original. It's basically exactly the formula everybody uses for building a rice style car. These days it takes more backbone to mod japanese car and not follow that formula.
There are cars posted on this site that are really good, to the same level as some of the best 7's. For example I love MissyK's car except for her wheels (I like her old one better but understand her reasoning for the change), and her friend's car in the orange is just bad ***, great paint job, great wheels, some custom work that looks like it could have been stock, etc. There's a white car (no body kit) with white 19's and dark tint that looks great.
Personally I prefer to build the car towards my own vision of what I want, rather than some kid's vision in japan from 2 years ago, or some american exec's that knows if he says his part is "JDM" there is a segment that will buy that over something of equal or better quality.

RX8 HA HA
OMFG Are you serious?? hahaha
First off im not taking any sides here. Infact I hate the term JDM, jdm this, jdm that, i truely believe that the term is way too overated esepcially amongst the honda guys. Now as far as you throwing the "rice" term everywhere thats just incoherent! Everyone has they're own meaning of rice, but your is just childish! If people like myself choose to go with a carbon fibered hood thats my preference, but tell me, how does that make me rice? Seriosuly be logical about your answers because you seem to not put much thought into them at all. So going with rays wheels is obligatory? Is there something wrong with having 19x9.5 inch rims that weigh in at 18 lbs? BTW, im pretty much the only one in the U.S. with rims like mine. And seriously, whats up with those rules of yours? Are they what you live by? I have a couple questions for you MR. magazine know it all journalist:
Pointless vents?
Vented hoods do help cool the engine bay temperature.
Stickers rice?
I can understand this one if it was done too excessively, but whats wrong with helping out a friends company? So helping = rice?
catback, turbo, piggyback, gauges, patterned interior fabric, clear corners?
come on man, think before you post seriously!!! What the heck is wrong with a catback or turbo? and especially clear corners, those are OEM in Japan! WTF do you want our cars too look like? Like yours?
So your car is the epitome of originality and all that is awesome? Looks like nothing special to me. Oh yea, nice catback btw..very original. So keep following your so called "formula", and stay on your road to originality cause from what you claim, it is working for you.

Here is my warning on the ings Nose for you. It is the lowest nose on any bodykit for the rx8. If you pair it with the veilside side skirts, it will not line up. The INGS+1 kit for the RX8 is the worst fitting INGS kit I have ever seen, and they refuse to address the issue. I spent almost a week trying to get the nose to fit as good as it does now.

Haha. This thread has officially been Hijacked!! My only comment is that I find it so interesting that we have all purchased a Japanese car but several of us hate the Japanese tuner culture so much! If you wanted anti-rice, ya should of got a Corvette!!
I appreciate all flavors of 8's. It really depends on where you live as to what is acceptable. (e.g.--Inner city (mod heavy), suburbs/country not so much). I know guys with cars that would be considered ricey but they get more awards for mods at car shows than anyone I know. To each his own. Let em live...

幹他媽!
well, i think ur car looks nice... but, i also understand how u're feeling. when i ordered my 8 it was w/ the oem body kit. but, before it was built i kept going to the dealer and looking at pix online. and, then i realized that there may come a day where i would get sick of that look. and, so i had them remove it from the order.
if u really hate it that much maybe look for other ones?

Hi my name is Chris. I am a rice-a-holic. I have a problem. My car has colors, carbon fiber, black "tuner" wheels, accentuated vents, tinted windows and stickers. Can you ever forgive me??? PLEASE!?!?!?
