Exotic materials FTW! Can't mess with carbon fiber monocoque. No way our cars can compete, just based on raw materials. That's why I sometimes wish some companies would have special edition versions of popular sports cars which are built with exotic materials. It sorta worked on the Shinka to have the upscale leather right? Bring it all the way down to the chassis baby!

*dreams* Special Edition RX8 released with titanium rotary engine *wakes up*

Aren't these just door skins (sheet metal replacement) and not actual doors? If I'm right they would be no "less safe" than what's on there.

yea for that price it clearly isn't sheet metal replacement.that would be ideal though.

I'm pretty sure they're not meant for street racing...

These are for hard-core racers who already have a roll cage with plenty of side impact protection.

Just the fact that these are available from Seibon for our cars is awesome.

I am sure you can tell which one is mine...this was at a small local car show. It is black paint on the whole door as well as some embelishment on the edges...it is kind of a love or hate paint job...many people hate it...many love it...guess which one I am... Seibon doors?-carshow-all-three-2.jpg

hmmm interesting IMO Ithink it would have looked better if you had followed the lines of the car, it definately needs a front chin spoiler or aftermarket bumper entirely and the black paint that roles over the rear fender is my least fav part...

Reviving a dead thread, but silly to make a new one... why not just fab a light weight 4130 or TI bar(s) to reinforce the internal structure while still maintaining the weight reduction over the factory doors? What would be the down side to this?

Also, no one actually posted the actual door weights vs the Seibon doors. I'm curious to know just how much weight these doors would actually save.

Looks like the doors used on the Speedsource Riley GT chassis. I got to hold them during garage maintenance at the NJMP Rolex race last year, not a whole hell of a lot to their structure. Like the rest of the thread states, they are basically aerodynamic / cosmetic, you'll need a roll cage and structural reinforcement over and above what the OEM doors supply.

As to their weight? The Riley doors, I could hold the rear segment with one finger, no strain. I doubt it weighed more than 7 pounds. The OEM door, heck, the glass and trim weighs that much. For that weight, you have a shell with hinges and a latch, nothing more.

Replacing the rear doors would be a waste since they are aluminum and weight under 25lbs a piece on their own...

The front doors are steel, however, and weight a good amount (also due to the size of the window glass, power window motor, speaker, trim, etc) so you could save some weight but it would be offset by the requisite rollcage.
