RX8Strakes.com's Foglight Overlays

Dont buy them. Seriously. They're overpriced stickers that are cut WAY too small for the foglights. There's only difference in lighting when the foglights are OFF. When theyre on, theres no better visibility in foggy weather and they look like they'res no "overlay" on the foglight. Ive been going back and forth with theyre sale rep, Dave; yeah, he's no help at all. $15 for two translucent stickers and $3 shipping... which is a 49cent envelope. ive posted pics and when i get better shots, ill share them. I'll never buy from them again. And im probably not the only one who's had problems the RX8Strakes.com

Where my fingernail is, is where the "Overlay" starts

there wer instuctions, they said to mist the area and finger tips, then apply them. im not happy. i just recieved an email from them today, told me if theyre unused to send them back... Dave (theyre online sales rep) has been fighting me on this and avoiding some of my questions and concerns. i had to be an ******* after the 4th or 5th email i sent since i wasnt making any progress. he said he couldnt tell from the photos what i was talking about. tomorrow ill post the emails up if you guys would like to see them. very informative. these are literally translucent stickers. im pissed

A few points to clear up. The overlays are Lamin-X brand, and are very good quality overlays. The fog light overlays we have are all the same size. We've put them on our own car and didn't see any noticeable size issue. The do stretch a bit if installed correctly. We've also sold many by themselves and as part of the headlight kit, and have not heard of a size issue before this. We asked that if Imphaetus believed them to be cut too small, he could return them and if this were the case, the purchase would be refunded.

I also believe the initial complaint was not size, but was the belief that the overlays would change the color of the light to improve road visibility. Unfortunately this is not the case, nor do I believe was this implied. It was suggested that the fog lights themselves be replaced with yellow bulbs to achieve the effect Imphaetus was looking for.

One more point - 1st class mail shipping in a thick bubble mailer with delivery confirmation is not $0.49.

Sucks to hear you're having issues with them. Though I have to say, as far as them being translucent stickers, what were you expecting ?

I've had good luck with all of the products I've bought from them, but I have heard mixed reviews in the past.

I bought:
- Rotary emblem valve stem caps
- Interior red LEDs for all interior and trunk lights
- Piano black B-pillar appliques (if you follow the directions, they look like crap, if you do it *right* with a hairdryer and a cork roller, they look great.)

I recently heard someone bought driving light "HID Match" bulbs from them and they didn't fit his housings. Though they do list two types of driving light bulb, it's possible he bought the wrong type I suppose...

thanks for chiming in and clarifying, rx8strakes. it does seem like the op had some unrealistic expectations, at least w/ regard to the light output. not sure how the size thing will play out. i'm still interested in getting the smoked ones for headlights and fogs...

so i can return them used? your policy states they have to be unused and in the same package... as you can see in the pics, theyve been used. and i do retract the visibility issue, i was under the impression that they did make a bit of difference. but they still dont fit. and the instructions supplied did not state anything about stretching. and nowhere was it mentioned that they were translucent "lamin-x" stickers, so it was implied that they were some sort of lens. i was expecting something worth the $15. and what delivery confirmation? was there atracking number that was kept in your hands b/c i was never sent one.

Youre supplied photo:

My photos dont look anything like that. like i mentioned earlier, about half an inch too short all around. and in another post you made awhile back, you stated that you will get an approximate 5% hue difference. i noticed no difference at all
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...+light+overlay
Youre post:
We're told that the yellow overlays do create a yellow hue. The blue do not.

Regarding the overlay light reduction, here are the stats:
Blue = approx 3%
Yellow = approx 5%
Red = approx 5-10%

ive already removed them from my lights, will you still accept the return? in your return policy it states that they cannot be returned if used.

Since I've been absolutely no help at all and I've got nothing better to do with my time, I removed one of the yellow overlays tonight (the car looks great now, thanks!), and took this picture. Enjoy!

I would assume you could figure out which side has the yellow overlay on, right? The fog lights are still stock, and the overall picture color balance is too blue (which means the whole picture should be adjusted a little yellower). So, the overlay does look to me to throw some yellow. Anyone else see it?

We think the overlays Lamin-X provides are quality products - not cheap stickers. You can get those on eBay if you'd like - see how long they last with the heat from the fogs. I'm not sure what else we can say about them. If you have any more technical questions about the Lamin-X product, I would suggest you contact them directly.

One edit:
you stated that you will get an approximate 5% hue difference
That's not what it says. It says a 5% light reduction.

About the delivery confirmation number, check your email. Every customer receives an email from us with shipping information sent (to the email you provided with your order) at the time of mailing.

- Dave

this thread is full of lulz.

Imphaetus, the description on their website makes no mention of it being a lens. Everyone knows when they see products like this it is simply a tinted overlay, like window tint. I'm confused why you would think so...it seems pretty clear to me.

Lamin-x are good... I have them...

Only problem I have with them are.... and this is actually my own fault.

Both of the fogs were cracked, and I just put the laminant over it. Well, since they are cracked, the heat from the light will seep through from there. So the laminant is kinda burnt from where the crack is...

I want this but for some reason I suck at putting stickers on anything remotely resembling tint. I can swap an engine without thiking twice but I screwed up my rx8club sticker install.

if you buy an overlay thinking it's going to make a drastic change to the lit color then you've done zero reading on overlays and are a tard. rx8strakes is a great company. I've bought many items from them and have had nothing but positive results in every interaction.

Don't blame a company for your lack of knowledge.

great comparison! It even looks like more than a 5% difference then less... not sure what the OP is getting at...

for $18 i was expecting a lens. i figured somehow rx8strakes figured out how to create a pop-on lens. (like the lenses on the foglights you see at parts stores...but to pop it over the lamp...) but whatever you still need to fix the size issue. and your fogs look like projectors... mine are halogen... stock(w/o overlay), my lights(stock) look like the right side of your pic and didnt get a difference with the overlay on. but thats not the point anymore. something needs to be done about your sizing issue. at this point its too much of a headache dealing with you. maybe the next guy wont be too dissappointed when they recieve their overlays after reading this. and your description on your site makes no mention of the overlay not being a lens or a "lamin-x" sticker/decal/film/vinyl/whatever.

Sorry, I gotta side with RXstrakes on this. Overlays are a pretty common product for lights (head, tail, fog, whatever) and Lamin-x is a well known brand. If they were selling a plastic lense I would guess that it would be quite a bit more expensive since recouping R&D and production costs with such a small number of RX-8 owners (relatively) would be difficult. It would probably also state that it was a plastic lense. $15 also sounds like a reasonable price for a "sticker" as you put it.

To RXstrakes, maybe mentioning that these are Lamin-X on your site wouldn't be a bad thing since they are a respected brand.

No offense intended to anyone, but what I can't figure out is why you want to put an overlay on your lights to reduce the amount of light output? The stock fogs are dim enough as it is...

^^ for show. some people like the "look" of a yellow lens version a "clear" one, esp for fogs. i personally will be getting the tinted ones, all around so they will all "blend" better visually w/ my black 8

i plan on getting these, fully knowing that they absolutely do not enhance visibility at all. w/ HIDs, fog lights are pretty useless anyway except for looks. and for looks, yellow fog lights look pretty awesome. race cars use colored (usually yellow) lights to distinguish class, and i suspect those yellow bulbs or factory yellow fogs don't really have any real benefits either. $15 for two circles of laminX is a bit expensive, but you're paying for them cutting it to shape for you. you can get a big sheet of laminX and cut them yourself. i thought about doing that but couldn't find any cheap whole sheets of laminX

I just ordered a bunch of stuff. shipping was fast and everything worked perfectly. Its funny how somebody that knows very little about a product tries to dog on an authorized vendor on their sponsored category on this site???? I would have called the company first before dissing them on the forum.

first you expect a lens, and then you are suprised it is an overlay???

you fogs are halogen.. well that is not stock or close to it. so you have added non stock fogs and are wondering why the stock overlays dont fit? or you added halogen lights to the stock fogs and dont understand when they over heat they dont fit?

pick a door, but they all come back to you fail not the product..

btw, to all this is a garnish. it is by no means to make the light better in fog. or make you taller..

and i dont have not or ever worked for rx8 strakes . what ever. this is just stupid..

beers

you you pretty much can just
