RX8 Strakes website

Hey ,

Just saw some strakes on ebay that match the Mazda paint colors. There is a link to a website called rx8strakes.com. Anybody, got these? How is the quality?

cstokes24 07-02-2005 02:10 PM

Item description says:
These strakes are a faithful reproduction of the OEM metal strakes, molded in hard plastic. They are painted in quality acrylic enamel, clear coated to protect the finish, and finally polished to a high luster.

A pair of red ones are ending on ebay for 73 bucks....hmmmmmmm

humagin 07-02-2005 02:49 PM

I just won them :) . Final bid: 76.00 at 3 secs left! I was lucky. I will let you know as soon as I received them.

Oh yeah...DLS Customs sells them for 92.00 but try to get them! Unfortunatly, this guy (DLS Customs) did not reply to my emails (2 weeks since I sent my emails). I know that everyone says that he is very busy but it's not a good reason for me to approve the way he does business. He should get more resources. When You have a business, you have to do what is necessary to give a good service and not replying to the email is not very professional!

tiggerlee 07-02-2005 03:00 PM

I thought strakes were universal fit? That sight(www.rx8strakes.com) sells individual replacement strakes marked as upper, lower, left, right. Is there really a difference? I don't have strakes but I'm looking for someone to gold plate some for my 8 if anyone has any suggetions.

cgrx 07-02-2005 03:07 PM

^^^not universal^^^

humagin 07-02-2005 03:09 PM

Here are the replies that I got from him. I received replies within 1 hour!

Quote:"Thank you for your interest. At this time, I only have the strakes available that are listed on eBay. Time and resources permitting, I'm hoping to be able to sell them directly at RX8strakes.com at a later date. At that time, you will be able to purchase a 6 strake setup (4-strake kit and individuals). I am still trying to determine which strake (upper or lower) works best as the middle strake. I hope this helps. :)"

Second email:

Quote:"I do not have the inventory yet to start selling direct, so I am only selling on eBay for now to guage demand. You can place your bid on eBay, and if you win, you can either pay by Paypal using a credit card (this is very easy to do, and results in immediate shipping), or send a cashier's or personal check (shipping delayed until check arrives). I hope this helps. :)"

tiggerlee 07-02-2005 03:12 PM

^thanks cgrx & humagin! I guess I'll have to check out ebay.

jaguargod 07-02-2005 10:43 PM

Would these strakes that have the sunlight silver finish look good on a Ti Gray? Is the S.S. color about the color of the OEM stakes that Mazda sells?

MADIZM 07-02-2005 11:12 PM

I wish I didn't just buy the stainless steel ebay ones : (

I am getting them powdercoated black anyway

nijelSC 07-02-2005 11:18 PM

I got the black ones today. I wanted the VR's, but...
Paid them immediately and they were shipped right away. The guy informed me that I will receive second envelop with some double sided tape for more secure installation as an addition to the screws. This seller seems very responsible so far.
But let see the strakes.

Hey...I asked him this exact question. Here is the reply:
"I just purchased Titanium Gray and Brilliant Black paint, so I should have these listed within the next couple of days. :) "

Can't wait to hear a review and see pics of these strakes.

rotten42 07-03-2005 01:57 AM

I got mine from DL Customs......they did take a while but worth the wait. I got them to match my V-Red paint.

nijelSC 07-05-2005 02:42 PM

OK
I got the strakes today in the mail. They are very well made, professionally packaged with all you need to install them, including detailed instructions and even a phillips screwdriver. Each strake is marked for the exact mounting location. The finish is good and they are so light. This guy knows his work.
I'm very satisfied with the purchase. Great value.

KYRX8 07-05-2005 03:29 PM

they dont list the yellow ones

humagin 07-05-2005 07:21 PM

Hello nijelSC,
I am waiting for my red ones to arrive. I live in Montreal, Canada so it might take a little more time. Did you installed them already? If not, do you have the intention to use the adhesive strip? I don't know if the adhesive is really necessary due to the fact that they are so light. What do you think?

glassetcher 07-05-2005 08:26 PM

Overall, I just haven't liked the looks of strakes. However, I have not seen V red strakes on a V red '8.. Anyone have some pics to evaluate?

Zoom, Zoom

r042wal 07-05-2005 09:02 PM

Anyone have a link for DL Customs or DLS Customs?

No, I haven't. I'm waiting for the veilside v1 I ordered. I will paint the strakes VR along with the kit. I wont use the adhesive strip. They are so light that there is no need for it.

LiL BenNy 07-06-2005 12:14 AM

i was looking at mine today.. heads up i think you should use the tape IMO if they are as good as a fit they will be up against the paint.. risking scratching paint.. so i wouldnt risk it and jsut put it on.. so it acts as a cushion..(sp?)

chrism 07-06-2005 06:04 AM

the guy selling them goes by smedley....i believe he got frustrated after spending nearly 200 on a set of oem ones and decided to make his own version......wasnt sure on how to price them so he let the market demand dictate pricing and started them off on ebay at 39.99.....pretty good way to get allot of business.....from what i hear they will be in all colors and custom colors once it takes off....

jenkins-crew 07-06-2005 07:30 AM

I was thinking of getting these, I want to do something different thought, everyone gets strakes.

avg8 07-11-2005 03:36 PM

Best place to get strakes

Anyone know of the best place to get strakes for a 2005 RX8??? Thanks.

dazygirl415 07-11-2005 03:47 PM

I got mine from Howard, a man working out of the UK. They're stainless steel so they won't corrode and from what I've read, they're better quality than the strakes offered by Mazda.

avg8 07-11-2005 03:53 PM

How would one contact Howard, and how much did they cost, also vever heard of RX8strakes.com??? Thanks

dazygirl415 07-11-2005 03:55 PM

I've heard of that... He may be the one running that or selling on the site, but I'm not sure. I bought mine off eBay for just over $100 I think.

avg8 07-11-2005 04:19 PM

Thank you, currently bidding on a set on Ebay!!!!!!! :D

dazygirl415 07-11-2005 09:46 PM

You're welcome and enjoy!!

flowerl77 07-12-2005 04:37 PM

install

Did u install them urself? How hard was it?

Jedi54 07-12-2005 04:55 PM

The instructions that come with Howard's strakes aren't the greatest...

There's a DIY on here that is much better

dazygirl415 07-12-2005 07:01 PM

Agree that Howard's weren't great, but I read it a couple times and used common sense and it wasn't that hard.

CUE2's RX-8 07-12-2005 09:30 PM

I have Howard's strakes too. I tried to follow his directions on strake placement in the grills, but you had to assume they sit right next to the solid plastic rib. Other than that confusion, the strakes weren't difficult to install, and they are still looking great!

CUE2's RX-8 07-12-2005 09:37 PM

dazygirl: Your rims look great! Do you mind telling me how much you paid?

dazygirl415 07-13-2005 08:29 AM

Thanks Cue!

I bought them off ebay, for $500 if I remember correctly.

antiver 07-13-2005 09:22 AM

Thanks Dazy! I just bought those strakes off ebay from Howard. There are now 19 left if anyone is interested :).

Gambit 07-13-2005 09:25 AM

I got the stainless ones too, and I like them better than the others...but for those interested, I just saw colored ones on ebay for 40 bucks

winning blue:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33654

Pretty sure I saw red and white too

flowerl77 07-14-2005 09:13 AM

howardfb

antiver and Dazy I am looking on ebay and I see a ton of them...which one did you all buy from? Any from howardfb are good?

Gambit 07-14-2005 12:22 PM

I don't see his ad up there right now.

You can tell which the stainless are because the price is listed in GBP as like 65 pounds or so, and his pictures are of his strakes on a winning blue

salituro64 07-14-2005 09:03 PM

IMO the satin finish aluminum (OEM) look better than shiny stainless steel.

Hello,

I installed yesterday my red strakes that I received from www.RX8Strakes.com. I must say that the quality is very good. He used the OEM strakes as masters for the molds, they are perfect copies. I must also say that the communication with Dave is very easy. I always replied promptly and with complete answers.

I strongly recommend doing business with him, trust me you won't be disappointed.

Sorry my pictures were taken at night, they are a little bit dark.

tiggerlee 07-14-2005 09:28 PM

^Nice! they look really good. I may have to check them out..

rx8power 07-14-2005 09:37 PM

I got mine yesterday, and all I can tell you is that I've never seen such a good quality replica, perfect color, perfect fit, perfect packaging. Not bad at all, and I only paid $55 shipped to my house.

I just installed clear corners yesterday night. Here's 2 pictures with my new red strakes and clear corners.

RX8CaliGirl 07-18-2005 11:04 PM

Looks beeyoootiful, humagin. Were those clear corners hard to install?

jenkins-crew 07-19-2005 07:11 AM

clears take about a min. a piece.

Those strakes look great.

Rotary Rasp 07-19-2005 10:50 AM

I'm still up in the air about painted strakes. Isn't the whole idea to make them stand out? I really like the polished strakes.

storemannormin 07-20-2005 01:41 PM

I was just at Mazda on friday they had strakes there for 400$..is that not a retarded price...I asked her double check and she said that was the price....Sundance Mazda in Edmonton.

jenkins-crew 07-20-2005 01:43 PM

holly cow! $100 a strake...must be supply and demand....
