Nasty, RX-8 doesn't look good as a convertible. Perhaps the strongest design feature is the arcing roofline which ties all the body lines together.
Good photochop though...

The 8 looks to bubbly as a convertible....besides why would mazda ruin their high rollover rating? Last time I checked alot of stealerships use that as a major means for promoting the car.....
However I think that with the right kit and wing a convertible 8 could look ok....Ings+1 conv. anybody?

i've read in previous threads that the roof is also a key structural point in the RX8's body and plays a big role in the rigidity/handling department. a convertible would lose that, and handling is our cars main quality.

^ witht he right design the rx8 CAN be a very good handling convertable. youre going to need much more support and reinforcements. just look at the old rx7 FC verts. they were heavier than the normal coupe versions because of the supports added tot he body. but yes its correct, i doupt you would even be able to close the door within a week of sawing off the top because of body warping... unless you somehow add costly supports all over the body. someone should try turning their 8 into a targa top.
