Rear Wheel Panel

I was just wondering if every new 2005 rx8 comes with these sticker-like things at the front-side of the rear wheel panels. Right between the rear tire well and the rear door.
The same thing is on both sides. The color matches the body color pretty well. Are they there instead of some optional accessory like a flare or something?

I hope it shows up in the picture.

Don't remove them!!! They are supposed to be there. As expo said they are on to protect the paint from rock chips.

cool. thanks. I don't see why rocks hit this location more than any other though.
I'm glad this forum's here for me to learn so much about the car.
I've never been so excited about owning a car as this go 'round.

They are clear, BTW, not the body color.
