Now that I've got my Veilside D1-GT (version 2) kit on I have to move my rear neon tube do to the fact the bumper is different. My body shop said that previously the tube was mounted only an inch away from the muffler heat shield, they want to know if they can mount it directly to the heat shield. They don't know if it will get to hot. Since it was only about an inch away previously, and it is being mounted on the outside of the heat shield which is suppost to reduce heat, I think it will be ok. What do you guys think?

 

They should be able to..
I assume they are going to attatch it to the edge of the read of the heat shield.

I have spent alot of time down under there when the muffler is hot. You can touch the edges of the heatshield with your hand even if the exhaust is hot.

I've done it may times after redlining my 8 enough so that the exhaust mounts actually cause the muffler to move 2 or 3 inches.

 

My rear LED is mounted on the inside of the rear bumper, about 5" away from the muffler. It gets so hot, it has warped the tube. It still works fine..just warped. :D

 

What's the purpose of this device?

 

of what device, you mean my blue neon light tube, or the heat shield, or the LED tube?

 

Best position - on some other car than an RX-8.

Neon on the '8 looks best next to the tire inflator kit.

Mount it vertically alongside the pump kit, keep the trunk shut and no-one needs to know your tragic secret.....
