Question regarding front air dam

I tried searching but didn't really get the answer. I have an automatic rx8 and wanted to add a front air dam. All the places that sell the front air dam say: "Not for use with the Grille Trim Ring and Automatic Transmission vehicles." Just wondering does it mean not for use if you have both a grille trim ring AND automatic or either? If having an automatic excludes the air dam, why? If it is ok with an automatic, does it matter if you have an AEM cold air intake? Thanks.
