Punks with BB Gun!!!
My nightmare came true... Three little #$#holes drilled my 2005 RX8 with a bb gun! They shot out my rear driver-side window and put a dent in my driver's door. Outside of being out my $1000 deductable, I have a delema. The window was an easy fix, but the door is a concern. Do I get someone to fill the dent and paint the door, or touch it up and live with the dent? I'm concerned that they may not be able to match the paint perfectly - it's Titanium Grey. A friend thought that because it is metallic that it would be very difficult to paint and match.
Can anyone provide some words of wisdom?
PS They caught the little bastards and I'm pressing charges.

Can you get their parents to pay for the damages? If so just get it fixed correctly (whatever that means, I don't know the proper way to fix a dent like that).

You should have chased them down and beaten one of them up. That's how WRX drivers do it.

a reputable shop will get as close to the paint matching as possible. look around a bit. it may never be exact, dealer painters have trouble with it too. but it will be as close as it can be and unless your eye is trained, you won't notice.
do you have a pic of the dent? it'd be easier to decide if we know what it looks like.

I'll post a pic later when I get home.
Unfortunately, or fortunately, my car was parked on the side of the road and I didn't witness the drive-by. The police caught them later that night. Apparently they have been on a tear for a couple of months. My temper is legendary, so best that I didn't see them. We'll see about restitution later, but I feel sick that my car will never really be the same - only has 5K miles....

Dude I know that what happened sucks, but make the best of it. I would wait to see if the parents are gonna pay for the damage. If so take advantage of it. I would have the door completely done, I would also get stuff done to the car. In most cases the Insurance will just give you a check for the amount. You have to ask, they will never ask first. Things like the glass scratching the seats and getting it detail, the value of the car just dropped even more, now a rental, you can run up the cost as much as you want to. I did a few years back with my 300z. I feel your pain (only 5k). That sucks!

Here's a couple of pics. Sorry if the quality is bad, they limit the file size of uploads. It's hard to tell but the paint is chipped off in the centre.

Talk with the children's (how old are they anyways?) parents, and with the police. If you have enough evidence to press charges you should have enough to make them legaly responsible for the damages. you could also offer them (if you feel it would stil bring you justice) not to press charges in exchange for them paying for the repair.

ow. they might be able to massage the dent out with a paintless dent repair tool. if not theyre going to have to fill it... sand the whole door down.. and repaint the whole door. theres a big chance that the paint wont match perfectly if its going to be repainted.

keep us posted on what happens to the kids. They'll probably just be let off on probabation and a slap on the wrist.
then call on us, and we'll make sure they get what they deserve.

There was an incident here in our tiny community a few years back. Three teenagers felt they had been wronged by peers, neighbors, the man, whatever. The three of them cruised around town shooting cars, houses and even at person or two with their BB gun.
Now, being a small town it turned out that I knew the father of one of these teenagers. We worked in the same building at that time. I *really* wanted to say something to him, but I could never figure out what to say.
The first thing that comes to mind is, "How about you control your son before he really hurts someone? If you can't control him, how about you move on out of town?" I never said that because I could imagine he'd take it personally. His son was already playing the race card in the papers and I wasn't the same ethnicity as their family so I could easily see them calling it a hate crime for me to call a spade a spade.
I really wanted to tell that father how my wife and I moved to this sleepy, rural community partially to escape youth and gang violence so prevalent in the big cities of the west coast. Seems like it should be fair for me to tell him, "Look, your son is one of the most serious trouble-makers in the valley. No one appreciates it. Get him under control." After all, this isn't anonymous, random vandalism or violence. It's a kid I know, son of a coworker I know.
....but I never knew what to say, so I never said anything. That always seemed like a missed opportunity. Maybe not an opportunity, maybe just an occassion where I should have known what to say, but didn't.
The reason it was especially frustrating was that many community leaders (pastor of his church, etc) were standing up for this "poor misguided boy" trying to get charges reduced, trying to get charges dropped, scrambling to get him a quick bail hearing so he could be back home with him mommy in an hour instead of stilling in jail overnight. Everyone trying to take anyway every possible negative consequence for the kid's actions - that seemed quite wrong. If there's no consequence, why wouldn't he do it again?

Sorry to hear about what happened. I found a place online where can buy OEM paint...www.paintscratch.com. All you have to do is put your vehicle info in and it will give you everything you need. It comes in spray cans and paint pens, scratch repair kits, etc. Also, I have a TiGray and our paint code is 29Y if you wanna go that way.
