painted carbon fiber?

I have noticed recently in magazines that people are painting their carbon fiber is this a good idea?

I guess it depends, in my case I did paint the lower part of the MS Style rear spoiler, I didn't like the look of black over red. No problems yet

Many people have painted carbon fiber. I saw one mazda6 at sevenstock8 that was red with a carbon fiber hood which was clear coated with a cherry red. OMG, it looked hot!

My friend has a CF hood on his car, its got a candy red, so you can still see its CF in the center and red paint on the sides to match the car...looks cool

I wanted to get a CF hood for the 8, and paint it body color (silver) so that it blended in like an OEM hood, but leave the center 'rotor shape' in carbon fiber....i think it would look great

That is a really good idea. Have you ever tried to get the manufacturer to weave the carbon fiber with silver?

I have had carbon fiber painted and re-clearcoated and have no problems yet. Just make sure you get it done with a shop that has a little experience with CF.

I wanted to paint mine like that, with that "candy" kind ofpaint but somehow no paint shop knew was I was talking about so I ended up just painting it VRed, but I'm happy with the way it came out

Any shop that makes CF parts should have (or could get) carbonfiber with silver thread in it, that would give you a CF look with a silver tint to it. They might charge you a little more, but it shouldnt be much more than a regular one.

I wanted to actualy paint all of the hood but the center 'rotor' shape, and have it made of regular carbon fiber, so that it looks like a totaly stock aluminium hood, but the center is CF.

I've never been a big CF fan but all the nice hoods are CF.

Just check out what Mikeb did with his Seibon hood:

I want to get a dry carbon hood, trunk, and fenders, paint them all body color (my 8 is black), take out the back seats, and add a turbo kit good for 300 whp. Instant SLEEPER.

Oh yeah ... you can paint carbon fiber no problem. Just look at the F1 and GT cars. Heck, the Z-Tuned R34 Skyline has painted carbon fiber body panels and hood. Thus spawn it's 10.09 sec 1/4s.

TOTALLY AGREE!!! It's what I'm going to do when I get around to ordering my hood. :o

That's funny...to me a black hood on a red car is beautiful.
