New Front Bumper and Performance Exhaust

Monday March 19

Hi all,

Just picked up a new front bumper from extreme dimensions and a full exhaust upgrade. (High flow Cat inc). The Muffler is from Racing Beat. Also, the eyelids from R-Magic. This should make an exciting combination for the RX8.

Here are some pics:

The Shop phoned this morning and explained the front bumper does not fit. Seems this is a common occurrence with after market body parts. Anyone else here have after market front bumpers with this problem? more to the point, how did you fix this?

- The total cost of upgrades purchased is 3k (including customs and the Song&Dance)
- The body work cost of this is another $1,800 to $2,000 - Yikes!

What gives? aren't they selling these after market kits for the RX8? - 04-07 are all the same cars. - I just find it surprised they didn't get it right.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Cheers!

well, truth is you bought a replica. from extreme dimensions no less, who has a very bad rep here. their stuff don't fit nicely at all.

so is it 1800 for the bodywork of the front bumper only? that's a painful price...

most body kits will have minor fitting issues because nothing is completely perfect for each and every car with the possible exception of mazdaspeed stuff. next time spend the money to buy the real things, they'll be a bit pricier but the cost of fitment will be a whole lot less

the exhaust system looks hot but be careful with any sort of replica parts because their kits are only close to a kit thats only close anyway

Sorry but extreme dimensions produces some crappy shyt. Very poor quality. Even if they can get it to fit, it still looks bad. VIS on the other hand makes better quality knoclkoff shyt.

Below is the email I sent Extreme Dimensions.

Subject: Follow up on yesterday's email. RX8 Front bumper fit problems.

Tuesday, March 20, 2007

Dear Extreme Dimensions,

The body shop and I have completed the final inspections of the Extreme Dimensions product on the RX8 this morning. As you can see in these pictures, the test installation does not look good. We agree; the Extreme Dimensions product does not fit the car intended. Do you have a variation of this product that does fit the standard RX8 (2004-2007) range?
If not, then assuming fitting problems like these, are common with this Extreme Dimensions product, would you be able to provide advice for me, and the RX8 Forum, on how to resolve issues with future Extreme Dimensions purchases?

The Sharp Collisions team has assured me, this is not the quality they are used to.
Fitting this product would mean lengthy reconstruction, and it would need to be permanently mounted.

Your assistance is much appreciated,

Options, should this happen to you.

I'll admit, the ED product was cheaper then other manufacturer products, but it was the look not the price that attracted my purchase.

My options are:
1 Convince ED the bumper is defective and send me a new one that fits. (If there is)
2 Reconstruct & shape, then install the bumper myself
3 Have the shop provide written confirmation along with the photographic evidence to verify this bumper does not fit the RX8. Forward this to Mastercard to retrieve payment, based on "Did not receive product as specified".
4 All of the above.

Looks like it may be option 4.
I don't want to do #3, but honestly, the bumper doesn't even fit the car. I haven't even heard back from ED since the original email and phone calls.

Anyone out there interested in buying ED products?

Don't think I will purchase from ED again.

This may be a good case to base future purchasing decisions when selecting body kits. I hope no-one else runs into this kind of trouble.

Hindsight, I would have paid more, to have the part fit the car.

Anyways, I appreciate the comments from you guys. My first mistake was not asking you gentlemen (and ladies) about this.

Lesson learned

Still got the Racing Beat muffler and Highflow "SR MotorSports Cat" to install next! Woo Hoo!!

Sorry dude, but I could have told you before you bought it that it wouldnt fit. I wouldnt expect it to be THAT bad, thats about the worst fit Ive seen, but I wouldnt expect it to look good at all.

Id say cover all bases and attack this problem through you CC and the vendor, as you said you would.

Lesson learned though, the $200 or so you might save on a knock off is not worth the $1000+ youll spend getting it to fit right. Bite the bullett and buy quality products, dont cheap out.

Putting on a knock off kit like that is like dressing a supermodel in KMart clothing. You spent nearly $30k on the car, why cheap out on the exterior apperance?

Sorry to see your having problems getting through this project, but hopefully youve learned a valuable lesson.

GL,

I think I know what you mean. Even though the part was cheap, I still paid a total sum (after shipping and duty) of $720.00CDN. Also, someone mentioned the RX8 is $35k, which is awesome. However in Canada a base RX8 GT will run you $48,500.00 after taxes. Mine was more because of the body kit and accents.

If anyone has seen this original bumper:
"Mazda RX8 2DR Demon"
As seen here: "Front"Bumper"http://www.visracing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=3126"

Let me know.
Locating the original product has become my top priority. If anyone here knows, or knows where to look, please inform me, you will have my gratitude!

Many _many_ thanks gentlemen.

Cheers

wow that is one terrrible kit....thats why ED has the rep it has....i have seen the CF version and it was awful but this is possibly worse....its gonna cost you as much as a better kit if not more money to fix that and you had better hope no one taps the FG on that cuz i can guarantee it wont hold up to even a minor tap....the reason why these kits are so terrible is that they are copies of copies of copies at that point and it gets so distorted that all the molds are wrong....gyro bot going forward please read up in here and ask before spending your hard earned cash....you may get some flames but some will help you so you wont have to deal with this again.....my suggestion....sell the bumber on ebay and unload it and try again.....find a kit here

or here

and ask the question before hitting the send money button

Thanks Dude.

I'm doing a cost comparison between the original and this one... but frankly, this is substandard, worse yet my best efforts would be a brittle front bumper.

I can see myself buying Authentic from now on. The R-Magic front bumper comes to mind. A good product, a good company.

Thanks for the links, they are inspirational. The dimensions on these kits look accurate instead of extreme.

im glad i could help in your decision....there are tons of kits out there....some fit good, some fir great but im sure almost all will be better than ED...if you have them add FG to your kit and put it on one good tap will take it out and then you have to start from scratch again....keep searching and reading and if you find something there are several vendors here im sure can help you get it in your hands

Racing beat installation completed.

Successful installation of Racing Beat high-flow exhaust system:

Racing Beat Muffler Installation - Review

Many thanks to the internet resources that offered sound clippings of different mufflers to help me decide on the best sounding option.

Racing Beat, you got a fabulous sounding muffler.

what?!! and pass this problem along to another unknowing 8 owner?

i'm sorry, but that seems pretty fucked up to me- esp from another member on this forum. we're supposed to be helping one another- not screwing each other over for **** like this.

i suggest "forcing" the seller to take it back- ie package it up and ship it back to them and putting a dispute on the charge on your credit card. if that seller is peddling defective products, then tough **** for them. it's their karma.

if you're insistent on selling it on ebay- then at least in good conscience- fully disclose the problem so that a potential buyer doesn't fall into the same trap.

what goes around comes around man.

yeah, I bought a replica MS rear and was never really happy with it. I bought it off a forum member, at less than what he paid for it. He was honest in selling it to me, and I was honest when selling it to another member myself. Honesty helps.

I've seen the ED kit in person, and took many pictures of it and posted them on the forum. A search would have found this for you prior to your purchase. The design is appealing, I agree. Too bad the fitment is poor.

There was a thread when the kit first came out...of a VR with the kit. He posted pics of the kit as originally installed, and gave a long write up of the work that was involved to make the kit fit. Short version, there was a lot of work needed.

Buy the real deal, or buy a replica once you've seen pics or the kit in person. There are some products out there that are close to the real deal. Good luck.
