New Bumper?

Hey guys the rx8 is now in need of a new bumper unfortunately. The shop that she is at right now said that with the money that the insurance company gives them for the OEM bumper i can put towards an aftermarket. Im looking to get a good fitting replica of the mazdaspeed front. Does anyone know where I can find one, any good sites to order off of? Im not sure how much the insurance company will give for the OEM bumper.

Good opportunity to install a Mazdaspeed bumper, but it's Mazda dealer/network affiliate purchase only, unless you can get a pre-owned here. Best to get local as it is a large shipping item. Removed from the box it goes fairly easily into most SUV's by reclining seats, etc.

Replica? They're not that expensive. If you can't go authentic MS then simply go with the OEM as it's still very nice looking.

^ The way to look at it is you're getting a nice discount on an authentic new MazdaSpeed bumper.

I ran it by the guy at the body shop he said hell check into getting the authentic part but im assuming when he calls mazda and they tell him the price it wont happen. Does anyone have experience with any of the companies that make a replica, anyone that they can recommend?

Just get the stock bumper for no cost. The fitment on aftermarket can be problemmatic.

You get what you pay for, and you apparently don't want to pay anything.

I have an AIT Mint. It looks very similar to the MS. These guys are right that fitment is often bad. When you purchase aftermarket you have to get the bumper fitted because they just don't fit the car well right out of the mold. This entails sanding and trimming as well as gel coating. Lastly the bumper has to be reinforced so the damn thing doesn't fly off the car at high speeds. All this being said I like the looks of mine but I spent $1000 on paint and installation alone. I purchased the bumper used from someguy who had never installed the bumper on his car. The bumper cost me $175. Then I spent another $80 on heavy gauge mesh for the inserts in the bumper. The shop also had to remount my stock fog light to the sub frame of the car. All the work took about three weeks. To go aftermarket and still have the car drivable you are going to spend more money on the aftermarket than the MS in the long run.

indeed, there are a lot of post here all drawing the same conclusion - to find a good replica, u might end up paying just as much as an authentic. so either suck it up and pay for 500 extra or just go witht he OEM one

while i agree that the mazdaspeed looks nice.

there are so many other options out there. 50% of kitted rx8s have the mazdaspeed. maybe more.
