Mazdaspeed vs GT bumper

Hi all,

I was backed into the other day in a parking lot and, long story short, my authentic Mazdaspeed bumper has a large crack in it.
I took it to the body shop to get an estimate done, and unfortunately they can no longer get a hold of a new one.

Here is my issue, the body shop said that they could repair it, but a couple of the tabs are broken on it, so it won't fit like new. They did say, however, that they would authorize a new GT bumper with the lip. I can post pictures of the damage if you guys are interested.

My question is, what would be the better option. I love the look of the Mazdaspeed front end, but I'm concerned with the fitment issues. Any input that you guys have would be appreciated.

Thanks

Add some photos everyone loves photos. Why can't they get hold of Mazdaspeed? I would stick with the original but that is just me. I have a replica and it looks good but the fitment is just not the same.

You can get a new authentic Mazdaspeed front, you just have to call around. Hoss-05 just had one put on at my buddies body shop. Replicas are crap, there is no comparison.

They called to a few mazda dealers in my area and all of them said that they couldn't order any in. They checked all the paint codes as well, so it isn't an issue of finding the right color.

Where did Hoss find his at?

Can't you just repair that one. Fill the crack with fiberglass and paint it

You could but it won't be the same. The MS bumper is not fiber glass.

I think I may just get the GT bumper. I don't want to deal with trying to locate a bumper and her (person who hit me) insurance not wanting to cover it all. I loved that you don't see many authentic MS front bumpers, but having a broken one sucks to be honest. I have until Monday morning to decide.

If they broke an authentic bumper, they should have to pay to have it replaced so the car was in the same condition it was before the accident. If you go with the GT bumper, they should have to throw in some money too.

There is no reason that damage cannot be repaired. You should really take it to another shop. There is a great tool called a plastic welder that would make short work of those cracks and most good body shops have one.

If they still are being a** holes or you dont want to go to another shop shoot me a pm and I will help you find a new one.

An authentic Mazdaspeed bumper is obviously worth way more than the GT bumper with a lip. I would tell them to keep looking for one. Maybe get them to give you the money and buy a used one? I wouldn't take a GT bumper in replace of a Mazdaspeed.

Sorry. That's what the guy at the shop called the regular bumper with the front Aero package.

Thanks for the link. I'll get this to the shop on Monday.

The problem with fixing is isn't the cracks, it has several tabs broken off of the side of it. I very well could be wrong, but I don't think that they can repair the tabs. I'll check with them on Monday and if they want to be dicks about it, I'll go find another shop.

that's nonsense. i JUST got a new MS bumper less than a month ago.

part number is QSEA-50-020 -X1 for primer. i just checked for you and there is no sunlight silver prepainted (QSEA-50-020 -67) any longer.

tell them just look it up without the color code -- QSEA-50-020 only, since they are tards and have a hard time looking sh*t up. but X1 is the only one MS stocks so far as I am aware, though I didn't look for every color code. i know they don't have ti grey either..!

retail is $1430. go get paid!!

**also insurance OWES you a new bumper. get one. and sell this busted one for some walking around money. i'm doing the same with mine, with a LOT less damage.

Wasn't to mad. Just a car and that's what insurance is for.

Took the part number to the body shop after I got out of my classes and the guy was on lunch. Hopefully I'll hear back from them today. I also gave them the mazdatrix link so I guess that I'll see how that goes.

Unfortunatley, the Mazda dealership in town said that they are out of stock. The guy at the shop tried Mazdatrix, but it is pickup only. I sent him this link (http://www.oemparts4cars.com/proddet...QSEA-50-020-X1) and hopefully they can get a hold of one for me.

I broke down and just told them to repair it. They are going to use a plastic welder and all that good stuff. They said that if it looks like crap that they will go another route.

I've passed like 4 links on to the shop and they called all of them. They all said that they are on back order and that there is no telling when, or if, they will get them back in stock. They were all more than happy to take my money though.... Go figure.
