I have some chips on my Brilliant Black RX-8 and saw the great reviews for the Langka paint chip repair kit.

I also read a thread where a couple people used Meguiars Scratch X instead of the Langka Blob Remover and got excellent results.

Should I just get the starter kit for $39.95?

 

You're comparing apples and oranges. Scratch-X is for removing fine, not-terribly-deep scratches from your paint. But it assumes the paint is still there. If you have paint chips, where a little speck of paint is now gone, Scratch-X won't help. You need Langka, which is a way to use touchup paint and then smooth down the blob that touchup paint, used by itself, inevitably causes.
