Lambo Doors info
Hey guys, just wanted to share some info on lambo doors that i've found..... i've been wanting them since seeing them on MTV's Pimp My Ride, but there isn't a kit made specificly for the RX8 yet, they will make one according to demand.... in case anyone else is interested this may help you out.....
the 3 main maufacturers of lambo doors kit are: decah, autoloc, and import precision
decah makes the VDC(verticle door conversion) and IP makes the VLS(verticle lift system)..... autoloc makes a standard and deluxe kit, deluxe comes with remote openers.... decah and autoloc sell their kits at a number of retailers on the web....
decahs main advantage is no welding, cutting or rolling of the car... in other words no modifications to your vehicle... it is direct bolt on system
autoloc claims to have a universal sytem that can be used on any car with some modifications to the kit.... regardless, with autoloc you will also have to modify the car(roll fender, etc.)
the VLS is cool in that it is the only one that can open up both like a lambo(up) or like regular(out).... there are some mods that need to be made with the VLS
all three have kits for civics, accords, 350z, rx7, etc and will make one for the RX8 when demand is enough.... the cost for the kits range form $1300 to $2300.....

IVe seen them and i know u might want them but seriously they would look crappy on hte rx8 on less you had the ones that just came up towards you sorof lookin like a bird flapping its wings like in a delorean. the doors on the 8 are good dont screw with them unless ther is some way to make the doors slide up into the roof so the completly disapeer now that would be cool.

gullwing doors go out and up like a dolerean..... these are pretty much straight up like a lambo.... the RX8 isn't a real expensive car, so I'm just trying to make it different from the all the other ones out there.... if you read my sig, you can see the other things i've done... i'm thinking about taking it to shows and competing....

2010 Prius - Miss the 8
If you want to be different than any other RX-8.. get ready to fork over more than $2300... start with body kits, custom interior stereo head unit system installed in the similar fashion as the ones on the Alpine website, Rims would be a good start too...
On the Alpine site, that Civic is just nuts... Most expensive Civic I've ever seen.

Oh, like you said Kidcas, since it's not that expensive of a car, and you wanted to be different and standout, you should have bought a more expensive car. Perhaps a Ford GT? Or heck, just go for a SLR Benz.. then you'll really stand out.

Tinted the front windshield, that's gotta be hell for driving at night?
I wouldn't change the doors on the 8 myself, but thanks for the info anyway...

the front windhield is only 50%, not a problem at night.... even if i woulda forked out for a more expenisve car, like a G35 or even a SLK, there would have still been many others like it on the road... and i cant afford a SL500 or something you dont see everyday...
as for my customizations: the alpine head unit, amps and speaker i already had on another car, so i just took them out, but i did have to have a box built for the subs, $50.... it cost me $175 for the professional window tint, $80 center dash piece, $100 to repaint after taking off the emblems.... there's an interior metal kit on ebay for sell, it's like $250, i'm not sure about that yet, but it looks nice...
from what i've read, people are split on the lambo doors... some like them and some don't... on one site people were saying it was too "rice", meaning like a rice rocket....

I didn't read the part were you asked for opinions on the lambo doors but you sure did get some! Thanks for the info.
Personally I wouldn't do that to my car but I do think it's kind of neat.
To those that posted negative comments and unwanted opinions...

OK, here's a real concern for the conversion....if you did it, it could seriously screw up the rear doors. There are pins that go into holes in the chassis to lock eveyrthing up. If the doors went straight up, that wouldn't be possible....what do you want to do...weld the rear doors shut?

that will be something that has to be addressed.. the kits for the rx8 aren't out yet.... but one solution may be that the doors come out about 6 inches first before they go up, to clear the frame... so it may not be a problem...

yeh..someone said it perfectly...if you want the lambo doors, buy a lambo..you wanna stand out huh...oh you'll stand out alright...you'll be the dumba$$ that spent a good $2300 on a stupid set of hinges to make your car LOOK like something it's not...you'll be the laughing stock of the RX-8er's...just like that Veilside is...it's ugly...
but then again...if that's what you wanna spend your dough on...it's your dough and your car...

xero,
you are so harsh
sometimes people on this board are so close minded
why waste your time bashing on someone who wants to fix their 8 up different than yours.
some people spend thousands on the engine and some spend thousands on apperance. CHILL out

it makes no sense, obviously if someone could afford the lambo they wouldn't be looking at the doors..... as far as the dumb *** statement, everyone has different opinions, alot people must like them or else there wouldn't be so many places selling the kits.... i do agree that $2300 is too high and i wouldn't spend that much on it, but the prices have ranged from $750 with extensive modifications to a reasonable $1500 with little mods.....

I think the doors are tight. I'd get them if they make the bolt on version. But I'd probably wait untill my warrenty is up and I pay off the car. A real lambo is $180K for the cheaper one. That's like 5 rx-8's.

The doors on the Veilside RX-8 compliment the look it's striving for, and I think it looks amazing. Not everyone has to agree, if someone wants to mod their RX-8 there's no need to bash them.
