Just installed... GTSPEC under tray cooling panel ...
Just got this installed at GTSPEC last week. About 13 lbs ... replaced my old beat up plastic panels :)

do you have a link to where you got it? it looks really good!
^ he sells them
you can buy it right off the gt spec website $425
I need to get that asap since my plastic piece is ripped down the middle and scrapes the ground.
Nice, but is it installed correctly? I could've sworn the radiator drain is on the opposite side.

race roots is not selling that product or the fender braces to my knowlege. and the drain is on the wrong side that why rr wanted them remade.
wow that looks good... I may have to invest in this product
that does look really nice, but not @ $450 for a piece of aluminum
ok just to make sure im understanding u can replace the undertray with this one instead of going back to mazda and getting the plastic one that like to break

Nice Mark!

Actually the revision will be two holes instead of one. The opening allow us to sneak a bolts on top so we can secure the panel.
As for the radiator drain part, it's easy enough to remove the panel when needed, so we are not too concern with it. |

whats the purpose of this besides looks? It awful expensive for under-car bling. Maybe i'm missing something...
Not more worrying about the plastic undertray breaking, might provide additional cooling(?), and it looks good to boot.
Man I might have to pick one up. Houston roads ate my under tray :(
The panel help cooling the engine bay by venting out the hot air through the added vents on the bottom.
In addition, lowered rx8 always has ripped plastic panel, this is a great replacement part. |
Aluminum is pretty soft. It seems like it would just deform the next time you hit something -- which you inevitably will.
This is 5053 aluminum , pretty sturdy. The panel is about 12mm thick. Look if you hit something hard enough to deform this, most likely ur wheel, exhaust will be done as well.
Do they make one with the radiator drain driver side? It looks like both JCS and GTSPEC make it wrong side--otherwise I would have it on my car already.
12mm?!? Holy crap! That's stupid.
I have an aluminum undertray on my car. It's 12ga 6061 and it ain't going anywhere, no matter what I hit. 12mm aluminum would weigh a ton. That's 1/2"! Maybe you meant 1.2mm. Anyway, we toyed with making a BHR tray like mine, but it was kinda shelved since we didn't think it was a worthwhile endeavor at the price point we thought was fair (about $150 - $175) which is all something like this is worth. Ours also included the uprights to the "turrets" so it wouldn't flop around. At $450, this is just like all the other GTSpec RX-8 bottom-side parts: over-priced and essentially non-functional. |
